About tooth whitening at home

Anyone used Dr George's Tooth whitening kit with good results? I have really yellow teeth by nature and they've gotten darker with age and red wine etc. Using pearldrops etc does help to brighten them but not a lot.

You could go and get your teeth whitened professionally for as little as £65 5-7 shades lighter and it usually lasts for up to a year.

It is illegal to sell anything in the UK over the counter that works - the max legal strength does nothing. ( remember all beauty product claims are , er, creative ) this is because whitening damages teeth so only dentists are allowed to do it - they will tell you the risks .

You can of course buy the American stuff online, if you want silly american fragile teeth.

Most of the horse faced slebs have had veneers.

My teeth are naturally yellowish, C grade or whatever but I used the bleaching kit from the dentist and it definitely brightened them up. Was only about £100 and I can top up if needs be. I wouldn't purchase anything like that over the internet, you only get one set of adult teeth.

I have tried a lot of home whitening treatments with little or no result. Then I bought Pearlys whitening powder. It is absolutely brilliant.

I have made up my mind to try them, I just wanted to know if anyone had used them and did they actually work. The hydrogen content in the dr george product according to their website is 5.42% which is about 15% in carbamide peroxide strength, the crest whitestrips professional effects are about 6.5% but they do have a new product which is 14%. but that may be too high for me. The stain removing toothpastes don't have any effect on the colour of my teeth although they do brighten them a bit. Also my dentist said that laser whitening would not work, but I could of course get a second opinion.

Crest whitestrips really do whiten your teeth, but fuck me, the sensitivity made me want to rip my own teeth out.

The gel from the dentist I have in the fridge is only 6% as I have sensitive teeth and it still bothered them. I know of friends who have used the whitestrips and sensitivity seems to be an issue, that and it can go on your gums easily.

I tried the Crest strips as well, was climbing the walls after the first one. I think with laser whitening you get bleach and trays to finish it off anyway, so some say you might as well just do the trays.
Four consecutive days is the maximum I can tolerate, then have two days off, then start again. I also found that taking the tray out when I wake in the night (usually about 4am) and rinsing with water helped. They've done their work after four hours. And this sounds gross, but leaving off toothpaste until after breakfast kept things calmer as well. My dentist gave me a Colgate Pro Sensitive toothpaste, which was actually quite calming under normal circumstances, but ime toothpaste aggravates the zingers so keep it to a minimum.

I tried Crest whitening strips. I stopped after about a week as they were making the colour of my teeth patchy.

I'm currently using trays and the enlighten evolution 3 gel given to me by my dentist. I'm in my fourth week and will return this Friday for a final polish.

My teeth were yellow and stained before, I didn't like smiling. Now they are shiny and almost perfectly white, this product has worked wonders. My dentist provided me with some sensitivity swabs for the first days and some special toothpaste and the sensitivity is fine, it disappeared very quickly with this.

It is expensive (around £700 including trays and after polish) but it's the best money I've ever spent.

I will now look into the Oral B toothpaste recommended further up here to keep them this way. I definitely have confidence to smile again :)
