To not bother with summer clothes ever again?

I've realised that huge amounts of my clothes barely warrant wardrobe or drawer space because they get worn maybe once or twice a year and so far this year haven't made it into the daylight.
I'm talking shorts, sleeveless tops, anything linen, summer dresses and as for any kind of swim/tanning wear, forget it.
I might just pack it all into storage a bin bag
This weather sucks!
Off to google how to live in permanently damp conditions and cry into a nice hot toddy, wrapped in a blanket.

I tend to live in jersey dresses from Mantaray or White Stuff, in winter I wear a thermal long sleeved top and leggings underneath with a warm cardi on top, in summer depending on the temperature I either don't wear it with anything or wear with lighter cardi and leggings.

Now shoes that's a different story, I've worn my sandals about twice this year. I hate having sweaty feet if it hot.

I find that generally speaking, it's only properly hot for two weeks in total across the whole summer (in SE England). It's also only properly cold for two weeks (haven't had snow for years, or even much frost). Spend your money on good quality shoulder season clothing, get cheap summer bits, a thermal layer and a few scarves and that's all you need really.

Agreed that the weather has been downright shocking this year. I think the thing that annoys me the most is those weird warm, wet days where it's piddling down, so I put a rain jacket and wellies on but the air is so muggy I end up getting to work sweating like a mofo.
Having said that, I spent 2 hours in the garden today trying to put together the trampoline I accidentally bought in Aldi and somehow got sunburnt Angry

We are in Cornwall and got sunburned today on the beach. Most definitely summer weather here.

I could have started this thread.
I was only thinking this morning. What's the point of buying summer clothes?
It's a waste of money.

I have made a decision that I'm not going to buy one thing next summer.
there's no point. You only get to wear it twice and by the following summer it's out of fashion!

"nobody has bothered restocking summer stuff. You only need it for trips abroad this year. I am mainly recycling last year's"

Do people really restock summer clothes every year? Really?

Some of my summer clothes are years old. They never get worn out as I hardly ever wear them. I have bought a few bits this year as we are going to Florida soon and need suitable clothes for the heat and humidity.

I mostly wear the same stuff too - dresses with leggings, cardigans over the top (sometimes three quarter or short sleeved ones), Birkenstocks in 'summer', boots in winter. Ta daaaaa... I have two pairs of shorts, I only wear them for hiking.

I am in the NE. In about 2000 I did an MA and became friends with a student from Argentina. At the beginning of the summer term, I went round and she told me she was changing to her summer wardrobe.

I had to explain that the summer she was expecting was v unlikely.

MiamiBound · 03/07/2016 23:57

I'm in South Carolina at the mo, it's boiling hot, and I'm buying 'sweatpants' and hoodies thinking why am I buying these... Trying to remember it's not like this at home..!!

ToadsforJustice · 03/07/2016 23:58

My summer wardrobe consists of me taking my cardigan off.

In the winter I wear skinny jeans, vest, jumper and nice leather boots.

In the summer I wear skinny jeans, vest, light cardigan and nice leather sandals.

Ahh the variation!
