To have discovered the magic of Michael Jackson late in life?

I'm 58 and a married lesbian for goodness sake but for the last two weeks have been watching YouTube videos of MJ dancing, singing, and cant believe what an incredibly talented entertainer he was. A pure spirit gone too soon. Just delightful to watch.

I can't believe there are still people who believe he is innocent. Surely this is a wind up?

Enb76 · 02/07/2016 08:35

I don't think he was a paedophile, I think he was an emotionally damaged man who found children easier to be around than adults. That makes him odd but it doesn't make him a paedophile.

WellErrr · 02/07/2016 08:38

Why not let it go to trial then Enb? Surely he'd want to be publicly proved innocent?

The stuff they reportedly found is vile. I don't believe he was innocent.

redhat · 02/07/2016 08:38

I think this is in quite bad taste. He was a talent in terms of his music. DS1 in particular loves a bit of Michael Jackson. But to refer to him as a "pure spirit gone to soon" when in all likelihood he was a serial child abuser seems like you're trying to be deliberately contentious... Hmm

But that Jimmy Saville was a nice friendly old guy wasn't he..

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/07/2016 08:40

How can there still be people who think he's a poor misunderstood boy child ?!

WellErrr · 02/07/2016 08:41

Cause they want to listen to Thriller guilt free Wink

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/07/2016 08:41

This is going to get deleted like the last thread where people dared to say he was a nasty paedophile who doesn't deserve the labels "hero" "legend" etc.

NelAntarctic · 02/07/2016 08:56

I truly don't understand why a there are question marks for so many people though.

Also, There's an absolute media shit-storm when this usually happens, but it's all very quiet.

It's very unnerving. With such hero-worship, I think the public need it hammering home. Those fucking parents who allegedly were bribed and paid, WATCH THIS SPACE

Some of the evidence that came out in the civil trials was pretty compelling. I read an article in Vanity Fair years ago, when he was still alive (so able to sue, if he wanted to) where some of this was elaborated on.

For example, some of the boys were able to give identifying features of his penis, when erect.

Of course, he paid out huge sums of money to settle, in the end. Why would you do that, if you were innocent? Why would the families even bring it to court? (I know from experience that litigation is not a barrel of laughs, and not something to enter into purely out of speculation.)

Members of the family have come out to say they were sexually abused as children. (Others have denied it, but if they were not abused, personally, they may well just not know.) Someone who is sexually abused as a child is more likely, in turn, to abuse children themselves.

I know it's innocent until proven guilty, but this utterly taints his music for me.

Jimmy Saville was never found guilty in a court of law, either.

Interesting user name OP.

ArrestedDevelopment · 02/07/2016 09:08

Do you think Janet or Jermaine knew he was guilty?

NelAntarctic · 02/07/2016 09:09

I know it's innocent until proven guilty, but this utterly taints his music for me

^^ I feel exactly the same

leccybill · 02/07/2016 09:18

A friend of mine won't have a bad word said about him. Makes me think a lot less of her to be honest.

EastMidsMummy · 02/07/2016 09:24

"I'm not saying Michael Jackson was a paedophile, but if I were the world's richest paedophile I'd definitely build a funfair in my back garden."

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 02/07/2016 09:42

The porn they found wasn't illegal afaik. It skated close with 'arty' images of children but I think the point was that he showed this porn to children as part of the grooming process

StillCounting123 · 02/07/2016 11:21

this is an interesting and disturbing read

Joystir58 · 02/07/2016 12:27

I hear everyone. I've gone through an arc of discovering and appreciating his talent to then discovering the scandals and the child abuse court case and being so dismayed that someone who seemed so sweet as well as talented from such a young age should become corrupt in his behaviour towards children, especially as he claimed to help them so much- I am sure he did help lots of children. I was sexually abused as a child and the Jimmy Saville case brought it all up for me and I sought and gained justice finally through going to the police. I would never condone child sexual abuse as it damages children and takes a life time to deal with- I know only too well about dealing with it.
And so I find it impossible to separate the music from the man, as someone here advised, and feel my brief fascination with his talent fall away.
