I can't indulge in too many cream teas as on slimming world
But I can factor gin Into the equation 😜

Where you are staying I think is actually quite a jouney away from St Ives?!
There is the camel trail for cycling at padstow. Zennor has a lovely pub with nice food and can do some long circular walks (can't advise, I follow dp!), the towans beaches I remember are long and breezy, Hayle town is quite sweet in a seaside town sort of way, lots of pastie shops, mr Bs ice cream shop which is a winner for my girls. Boat trips from Penzance, also nice tea rooms, pubs etc there.

JedRambosteen · 03/07/2016 23:51

You can park in Wadebridge and cycle, walk or conga the 5 miles along the Camel Trail (folloes the estuary) into Padstow, fill your boots with fish & chips, then walk the 5 miles back to your car. If you time it right with the tides, it's quite different at high & low tide. Sometimes you can see fish trapped in the shallow pools at low tide beats trying to park in Padstow in high season. There's a Co-op by the car park in Wadebridge too, so you can stock up on gin. Smile

We've just got back fro a week in Mawgan Porth. What we learned was that the weather forecasts were wrong every single day. Almost every day we did have some sunshine although we had some rain, too.

Everywhere was so friendly and for us great with the dog.

Google Scott and Babs restaurant, it was highly recommended to us and so good we went back twice. Can't describe it as it truly fits that horrible label, 'quirky'. All I can say is it was fabulous food and lovely people.

Walk on Watergate Bay beach and have coffee at The Beach Hut and get the same views as the expensive Jamie restaurant upstairs.

Have a brilliant time.

We have stayed in a cottage in Cornwall which was so atmospheric that it really didn't matter that it rained because it gave us the chance to not feel we had to go out the for the day!

We have only ever paid for one attraction in all our years of going and that was the Eden Project and that is terribly expensive unless you have vouchers.

We have spent days on the beach at Rock (no cost and parked in a field opened by a farmer) eating pasties (avoiding the prices at nearby Padstow). Padstow is terribly packed.

There is also a vineyard on the way there with wine tours and a bottle was left at our holiday cottage.

Kennack Sands is lovely and sheltered with cafes on the beach. Again fields are open for parking free. You can also walk to Kennack Sands from Cadgwith which is also lovely and the walks along the cliff top are spectacular. A submarine was sailing towards us last time we walked there. There are wild ponies on the cliff top.

We also went to Church Cove which we found somewhat spooky on a misty, windy day along with the Church.

There is a weird Victorian town attraction nearby I think it may be called Flambards.

There are lovely villages along the Helford River and nice pubs and ferry crossings.

Moving into Plymouth, there are boat trips which are cheap and cheerful then lunch at the greasy spoon on the marina front. I think it's called Captain something or other.

Visit the South Hams, if you don't mind travelling and go to Salcombe. Again, nice beach and you don't have to spend anything but outrageous property prices.

LunaLoveg00d · 04/07/2016 13:38

We are in Cornwall and got sunburned on the beach yesterday. It's dry today too.

BeansMcCready · 04/07/2016 13:44

The maritime museum, pendennis castle and a good swimming pool in Falmouth, not too much of a journey. Cinema in Penzance, st Michaels mount has lots of inside bits so good for a mixed day.

Mcchickenbb41 · 04/07/2016 14:05

Not sure if it will be near you but st Agnes is lovely. We have family there. As I'm sure it's already been said but the weather changes so quickly there I really wouldn't be worrying from I was you. Also as two wrongs said if it's raining where you are you could drive to a beach where it isn't after checking detailed weather reports. I'm very jealous we love Cornwall have a great time

maggiethemagpie · 04/07/2016 14:13

This is why i try not to holiday in the UK.

We had rain every day in Cornwall last year. We had lots walks on beaches (and gin) and it was wonderful. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time ( but perhaps bring a few books and DVDs just in case)

sleepwhenidie · 04/07/2016 20:24

The pub at zennor is the Tinners Arms. It's also worth going to Gurnards Head for walk and great meal, drive to the pub and walk if too far to walk from you.

CakeNinja · 04/07/2016 20:27

Mousehole is lovely, very quaint and again a couple of nice pubs. Harbour was so pretty when we went at Christmas.
Yes sorry, the pub in Zennor is indeed the Tinners Arms!

scaryteacher · 04/07/2016 20:27

ElsieMc Cap'n Jaspers - great after a ball for soaking up the alcohol..

Crispbutty · 04/07/2016 20:45

We got burned on the beach at Newquay yesterday but it really was lovely there. The weather is meant to be quite good this week now.

thewalrus · 04/07/2016 21:57

Check out the open top bus - number 500, maybe? - (I know, but you don't have to sit on top if it's raining!) - can be very useful for one-way walks along the coast path. So you could walk from St Ives to Zennor - 6 miles ish, over fairly challenging terrain, lovely views - have a pint/lunch in the Tinners and get the bus back.
The bit around Porthcurno has lovely walks - west to Porthgwarra, or east to Penberth.
Godrevy beach café is lovely if you go up to Gwithian (which you should!).
Second the suggestion of checking weather forecasts elsewhere and being prepared to travel. The Lizard is often sunny when the other bits of Cornwall aren't, for example.
Good luck - and enjoy!

ginorwine · 06/07/2016 17:34

The other day I had promised DS a walk, but it had started to rain. "Oh dear" I said, "Perhaps we shouldn't go for that walk." He looked at me like I was insane. "Don't be silly, Mummy," he said. "We can just put our waterproofs on." Glad you had sun today, OP, but if the rain comes, just carry on regardless Grin

yummumto3girls · 06/07/2016 19:25

Morgan Porth great for surfing and body boarding, book in a lesson get your wetsuit on and have fun, doesn't matter if it's raining! Bike ride Wadebridge to Padsrow, gets very busy though, seal sanctuary at Gweek. Lost gardens of Heligan, Eden.....loads to do come rain or shine!

Bearcatt · 06/07/2016 20:28
