To be happy that these people are teaching DS?

DS(9) is going into yr5. It's a brilliant school in a shitty area. At least three times a year there is a school disco. With tuck shop.

I know the takings are used to fund end of year booze ups for the staff. I like their entrepreneureal(sp?) acumen.

AIBU to be happy that DS's teachers are so resourceful? Or should I be outraged and appalled that they are exploiting our children for to pay for their end of year addictions, depravity and off the clock sinfulness?

I'm torn.

Staff at school always fund their own events. We even buy our own tea and coffee during the day. There's no way this is allowed or staff would do it

Come back OP... :(

zoobeedoo · 30/06/2016 22:22

The simple fact that you acknowledge the staff as brilliant, yes you should be happy they are his teachers.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 30/06/2016 22:24

bs

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 30/06/2016 22:28

How much does this disco cost?

Couple of quid to entertain my child for 1hr or 2 is a bargain!

I would need booze no way could I be a teacher

NCtoprotectmyidentity · 30/06/2016 22:36

I don't think they would be allowed to do this.

Oswin · 30/06/2016 22:41

People are mentioning the pta like all schools have one.
I live in a very deprived area, only one school has a sort of pta. Mostly they are not parents but retired women from the area.

ptumbi · 01/07/2016 07:33

Are you are parent of a child at school, Oswin? Then you are part of the PTA. All parents are. The fact thta there is no organised group, means that no-one (including yourself) can be bothered

Jengnr · 01/07/2016 07:42

My MIL is a former headteacher who relocated to the village they live in to take over the school. It is amazing how many people know for a fact that school paid for their house. :D

They used to have staff dos with booze. Paid for by MIL.

GoblinLittleOwl · 01/07/2016 08:19

I would be extremely surprised if the money from school discos were to be used to fund end of term parties for the staff; it would be illegal in state schools. Suggest you check your facts before spreading this story further.

There's no way this is true.

user1465823522 · 01/07/2016 08:46

I know the takings are used to fund end of year booze ups for the staff.

Really? You really honest to God know this as a fact?

I doubt it.

But nice try on the attempt to rile everyone up. 2 stars.

user1465823522 · 01/07/2016 09:17

In my experience the teacher's end of year piss up is entirely funded by parents - I took four bottles of wine into school yesterday and I wasn't the only one - about half the parents dropping their kids off had a bottle bag in hand

ilovechocolate07 · 01/07/2016 10:13

Who told you that it funds a party for the teachers? They'll be making very little profit in the sweets anyway and I've never heard of this taking place. Training day money left over used to buy lunch on a training day or a little buffet but any money raised at discos etc. goes towards things for the school and the kids. I have been a teacher and a TA and we put our hands in our own pockets a lot for the school and the kids.

StillRabbit · 01/07/2016 16:47

Total rot! I work in school and pay into the staff fund on a termly basis. This pays for tea, coffee, milk, squash, hand soap and hand lotion in the staff toilets and birthday cards. End of year celebrations are paid for out of our own pockets, as are Christmas cards and any gifts that the teachers choose to give their pupils at Christmas or end of term. Any money made at things like school discos has to go 'through the books' and school accounts are very diligently audited.

OneOfTheGrundys · 01/07/2016 17:18

Ahem.
Just. No.
Not in any school I've worked in anyhow!

OneOfTheGrundys · 01/07/2016 17:19

I like very much the hand lotion in the loos though. Smile

RoosterCogburn · 01/07/2016 17:22

I've obviously been working in the wrong schools! We pay for our own tea/coffee (which also then gets used for any visitors) tissues - as well as buying loads of bits and pieces for our classrooms.

how does the op know all this ? they seem to have gone very quiet, i'm just curious...

CraftyPenguin · 01/07/2016 17:37

Nope. No way does this happen.

mrsfuzzy · 01/07/2016 17:37

a bit trolling ? wind 'em up and let 'em go, a lot of people are taking the bait it seems.

DesolateWaist · 01/07/2016 17:39

How do you know?

Like other have said I have paid towards tea and coffee this year as well as spending the best part of £100 on stuff for the class room.
I very much doubt this is happening.

LifeHuh · 01/07/2016 23:07

Well this is making me think where is OP's DC at school ? Don't know enough about Grange Hill, St Trinians didn't have discos afaik.........
