Dogs using my lawn as a toilet - Aibu to be fed up

Our house has a front lawn that opens directly onto the pavement (no fence). Every night at around 10pm a man from further up the road lets his 2 dogs use it as their loo before they head home. I often see them from my bedroom window as we are going up to bed and he generally picks the poo up.
I have, however, on about half a dozen occasions found a pile of poo on the grass in a morning and had to clear it up - disgusting.
I can't be sure it's this mans dogs ( but I am 99% sure) so won't accuse him directly, but wibu to ask him to stop him letting his dogs use my lawn as their loo? He can walk an extra 50 yards and they can use his lawn instead.

I think he's being rude. I wouldn't let a dog on someone else's lawn. Can you fence?

We could yes but it would look odd as all the house have grass or drives straight onto the pavement. I guess I wanted to know if I was being a bit precious given that he usually picks it up. It's still rude though isn't it when he's got his own garden for them to go in?

Are you home in the day or not? We had a patch in front of our house that was used by dozens of dogs - I assume they could all smell each other's wee and wanted to mark the same spot. So by all means ask him to stop, but I think your 99% certainty level is a bit high.

Whether he picks it up or not he stil has no right whatsoever to let his dogs do that in your garden. Disgusting!

YNBU. What can't he let it lay it's logs on his own lawn. The cheeky liberty taking selfish twunt. How would he feel if you just had a shit on his lawn. It just isn't done.
I'd be reporting him, or having quiet words with him.

It doesn't make an iota of difference. If he cleans it up. The germs will still be there.

We had the same issues for years but having cctv I could accost the culprit. We've just torn up our grass and paved it, it's now delightfully poo free.

Incredibly rude. The houses in my road, incl mine, all have open front lawns. I don't let my dog put one foot on them when going for walkies, never mind curl one off on them! I'd be out there with a super soaker aimed at them both!

I agree that it's rude but if you have seen him pick up the poo then HE is a pick up after his dog person. Therefore I don't think HE is the culprit.

I hate walking past lawns like yours. My dog always smells other dog smells and wants to pee on them. And dogs prefer grass to anything else to do their business. That's just nature. I try to get her along but like us.... When you gotta go.....

If it doesn't work you'll need a plan B to reach a wider audience. Percy's sign is a bit evil but I like it, or just be more straightforward and put a sign up asking people not let their dogs use your garden.

We had a small stone wall and despite there being grass verges all the way along the road, people would sometimes step over our wall to let their dogs use our garden. I think it needs to be more of a visual barrier, if your deeds allow (ours didn't)

Even if he is picking the poo up, I don't think it is acceptable for him to let his dogs use your lawn as a loo. None of the front gardens on our street have fences (some sort of covenant/rule, I think), but when I walk the dogs up the road, there is no way I would let them use someone else's lawn - even for a wee!

My dad used to have the same issue.

He solved it with water balloons (aimed at the owner, not the dog)

I was going to suggest a sprinkler with you lying in wait by the tap.

A motion activated water spray.. They have different settings and are useful for discouraging night time animals as they turn and spray at the aniimal .

It's just not acceptable to allow your dog to shit on someones lawn, I have had this problem for a while now. Even had one cheeky sod ask me what the problem was! that conversation went down hill very quickly.

YANBU to ask him to stop, it's disgusting to let your dog use someone else's lawn, I have a dog myself and wouldn't dream of doing it.

We had a similar problem a few months ago - we have open gardens with large grass areas divided by driveways, but we do have a low wall to the front.

We had noticed for a while that poo would appear on our grass most days which we thought was cat or fox poo. Until I saw a guy who lived nearby, with his dog on a long lead encouraging his dog to come into our garden to do a wee - he then gave the dog a pat on the head and a treat for doing it there! I stood at the window giving my best WTF are you doing look and he saw me and hastily walked off looking sheepish. No problems since and I've rarely seen him since either (he used to walk past our house several times a day)

Thanks for everyone's replies - I didn't think I wbu but needed to check with the voices of reason! I am going to wait for him to pass the house and go out and ask him to stop! He goes past at exactly the same time every day so wish me luck!

Bloody hell I would be absolutely furious! Why does he choose your lawn?! Why can't the dog crap on the pavement? Whatever reasons, there is no excuse to let a dog do anything on someone else's property.

What the hell is the matter with some people? That's beyond rude.

I think Percy's idea is good but a motion activated sprinkler would be more satisfying; if you do go down that route just make sure you buy a very powerful one and it covers the whole lawn you really need to make sure the rude sod gets completely soaked.
