If at all anything? I don't want to turn up with something generally reserved for celebrations but I feel like I shouldn't turn up at their home empty handed.

Depends really. I can talk from experience and fortunately had a good prognosis. Your friend will just be glad to have your support and friendship. She may feel overwhelmed by lots of gifts. If she has children and hasn't told them it may make them suspicious if she hasn't told them. I got lots of flowers which were lovely. But really I was just glad the people I knew and liked were still close and generous with their time and were there for me whether it was popping round (if lived close by) or phoning, texting or emailing if far away. Before during and after treatment.

Clean her house top to bottom and do any little jobs that have been put on hold?
