To want my own car?

Dh had a very nasty accident earlier in the year. He can't return to his original job as his leg just isn't up to it and is still nowhere near recovered. This has led to a complete change in circumstances. I now work full time and he's at home with the kids, and home studying to re-train.

Up until about 3 weeks ago he was unable to drive, so I had the car. Now he can drive, it's driving me nuts! I can't get to work as early as I'd like because that means dragging the kids out before school/pre-school, I have to give him a time to pick me up and I can't just pop out as and when I need to. Eventually he'll need the car for his new career, and obviously over the school hols. So, aibu to want a second car? I'm talking about small run around, probably less than £1k. You'd think I'm asking the earth from his reaction!

No YANBU. Can you afford it?

pantsjustpants · 28/06/2016 19:17

Yes, definitely. Plus I have a pay rise coming soon.

You say you can afford it so absolutely get you own car why not? Yanbu

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 28/06/2016 19:36

Why is this even an issue. You need a car - go and get one!

RatSandmIce · 28/06/2016 19:44

Why is he so dead set against it?

Scarydinosaurs · 28/06/2016 20:00

What are his objections?

Yes, he's running me to and from work. But the nature of my job means varied start and finish, and I'm often out visiting customers or suppliers.

His main objection is that we don't need another one, it's working fine now and is waste of money.

He has the car because he's been doing lots of running around during the day. He coped fine without the car as we live 3 doors from school and 5 min walk from Pre-school. I popped out to take him to physio, and take annual leave for hospital appointments. In his defence, he's done a lot for my parents the last week or so. Dad is having a hip replacement tomorrow, and mum can't go out on her own due to a brain injury.

If you can afford it of course get a second car! No question.

Penfold007 · 28/06/2016 20:40

You don't need a run around car, he does.

HarrietSchulenberg · 28/06/2016 20:42

It sounds as if you actually do NEED a second car, so his argument is destroyed. Get thee to Autotrader forthwith.

ravenia · 28/06/2016 20:55

If you can afford it, not unreasonable at all. Especially if with your payrise you could afford to buy and run it without his help.

pantsjustpants · 28/06/2016 22:08

I'm already on Auto trader Grin.

He's a stay at home dad at the moment whilst his leg heels and he re-trains, so he doesn't actually have any money to contribute.
