The new trade union bill states that ballots for strike action for teachers and other key public sector workers are only valid if over 40% of the eligible voters (NOT just of those who actually voted) support it.
According to my (admittedly dodgy!) maths, only about 37% of eligible voters voted to leave the EU. Given the major ramifications of this decision now and for years to come, far beyond the inconvenience of having to find childcare for a day, shouldn't the standards for implementing a referendum decision be at least as high if not higher?
