To feel not enough people in this country understand democracy?

This is a post about both sides of the debate because frankly I think people from both sides have displayed appallingly.

I voted remain and I'm crushed. However this petition going around now is rediculous. You can't enact something after a referendum and apply it retrospectively. The law doesn't work that way. Democracy has spoken, we will leave.

But also why do so many leavers think that 'remainders should stop complaining because of democracy'. Umm democracy doesn't mean that you can't be disasatisfied with the outcome and vocalise it. I didn't realise we no longer had freedom of speech as wel???

My dd's aunt had just told her on Facebook that she's 'too young to understand the eu so shouldn't have voted' after complaining about remainders being upset and saying they should accept democracy. Telling my daughter that doesn't seem very democratic.

And all the stuff about xxx shouldn't have a vote because they are too xxx. It's frankly bloody disgraceful from both sides.

This referendum is different though because people acted on lies and made a protest vote without fully understanding the consequences.

No, it really isn't different.

Look I understand why emotions are running high and why people would be grasping at straws but this was a fair referendum.

Politicians lie, people regret their vote (I certainly have at a GE before) BUT you can't just decide that because the stakes were higher and you lost that just overturning THIS democratic decision is alright.

There has been great bitterness after each General Election in my lifetime (I'm almost 60)
What is completely different now is we can't vote to reverse this after 5 years. This is the rest of our lives.
So the anger will last a long time, especially if Brexit worsens austerity and unemployment.

A 2nd Referendum would be ridiculous though and atm wouldn't produce say 60%+ for one side.

The only possibility of reversal is if Bojo chooses to call a General Election in October, to seek a mandate as the new PM (he doesn't have to) BEFORE invoking Article 50 to start the leave process:

a party who has always been in favour of the EU, e.g. the Liberals, could put in their manifesto that they would NOT take us out of the EU, since the referendum had no legal force.
If Remainers feel sufficiently strongly, then they can vote on that one occasion for the Liberals (or for Labour, if they also put Remain in their manifesto)

Quick question, the police are currently investigating election fraud because they believe that overspending took place in a number of constituancies. Do we really want to live in a country that convicts politicians of overspending, but accepts that lying is inevitable?

Why do we accept that lying is inevitable? Why to we fel that we have no power to hold politicians to account for their lies? And most of all, why is it acceptable to change our position in the world based on lies?

I have no problem with the argument that we shoud leave the EU. I don't necessary agree with it, but I can see the issues. But I am disgusted that when being told immediately after the result that most of the campaign was bollocks, that we are expected to accept the result.

If you promised to do something, took someones money and then didn't act as promised that would be theft.

By lying about their intentions and conning a great number of people, I feel that the "leave" campaign have stolen votes I'm pissed off about it!

That said, I haven't signed the petition because the damage has already been done, xenophobia is far more socially acceptable than it was and nothing will reverse that now.

Sorry for typos and length, apparently incoherantly ranting is my thing today!
