I'm utterly devastated with the result, but have to accept that it was the democratic decision.

Trying to find some positive slant on it.

It does mean the end of TTIP, doesn't it?
And does it not mean we have the chance to form trade partnerships with other countries without competiton from the rest of Europe?

Cameron has gone. Another plus.
Hopefully the end of voter apathy which really annoys me every time there's an election.

It very much looks like TTIP won't be happening anyways. The EU and the US are still miles apart on so many points, have made zero progress in recent months and TTIP is massively unpopular with voters in many member states, most importantly Germany and France. Merkel still wants TTIP, but appears to be a pretty isolated on that one as even her own party has finally cottoned on to the fact that about 80% of Germans are vehemently opposed to it. Obama will be gone soon and neither Clinton nor Trump have shown much appetite for new trade agreements so far. Some people involved in the negotiations have already conceded that TTIP is dead.

Huge benefit for the 3rd world. Their main export is food and EU has huge tariffs on food. We will be able to get cheaper food and they will get more money, allowing growth in Africa etc.

BessieBraddocksEgg · 26/06/2016 01:57

I had read African farmers were disadvantaged by EU.

shadowfax07 · 26/06/2016 02:05

Really? You honestly think this is the end of TTIP? CETA is alive and well.

On the other hand, at least hairdryers, kettles, and vacuum cleaners seem to be safe now. Grin

BessieBraddocksEgg · 26/06/2016 02:08

With my hair I'm glad of that at least.

kittensandgin · 26/06/2016 02:26

On the other hand, at least hairdryers, kettles, and vacuum cleaners seem to be safe now.

Another example of how British tabloids and politicians have spouted complete bullshit yet again. The EU directive was never going to lead to less powerful hairdryers or vacuums cleaners, just more energy efficient ones.

"Sir James Dyson tells us that he could make a machine just as effective as the 2,000 to 3,000 watt models being “banned”, using only 700 watts.
Brussels is following moves in the US to reduce electricity demand by switching to appliances that are much more efficient; washing machines are now on sale that have cut energy use by 75 per cent, are 45 per cent cheaper – and even wash clothes better. This is all part of a drive to promote “demand side management”, by devising ways to cut electricity demand without reducing performance."

I have asked a mechanical engineer and he has confirmed this as well.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/06/2016 02:37

Oh god this is going to be tricky....

Ok, Farage has lost his EU salary although it's probably not much of a dent

Brexiteers can take some fucking responsibility for the future shit storm, maybe not get away with blaming these problems on others.

Hopefully the 48% can unite in time for the next election. A movement should be formed. Maybe the Lib Dems could stage a comeback. I think if Labour go chasing after the Leave voters they will lose support from the Labour remain voters, of which there are many.

I can't get excited about any new Tory PM. You might as well ask if I want dysentery or salmonella.

Ive been watching the speeches over the last two days from certain bigwigs of the EU.

On Friday morning they were full of indignation, arrogance, anger and hatred. I seriously thought one or two of them might combust.

This evening they could hardly string a sentence together.

How the mighty fall.

beetroot2 · 26/06/2016 02:56

Oh and Ive got a bit of a crush on Ian Duncan Smith now Grin

"London banker bonuses may fall" - before being too thrilled by that democracygeek - the town I live in has an industry almost entirely sustained by the bonuses /salaries of London bankers. Lots and lots of ordinary people could lose their livelihoods if these bankers move abroad (because that is what they will do, they won't stay here!!). We might not like the vast bonuses but in a global financial system i would rather they were being earnt and spent here than elsewhere!
