I'm fed up with my lack of motivation and energy to do anything. I'd love to be one of those people with loads of energy and always on the go. So to all you Duracell bunnies out there, tell me how you do it. Do you exercise and how much? What's your diet like? What makes the biggest difference to your energy levels? Tia Smile

Is it simply diet and exercise? Reading through the replies it seems like a lot of you have a happy optimistic outlook on life. I'm probably the opposite! I tend to agree with a pp that genetics may be a factor. Anyway just reading this thread has motivated me, I've a huge crush on you all now!

I exercise a few times a week and eat fairly well. Do like a drink and a takeaway but yes, definitely a positive person and I expect that life will be good and good things will happen IYSWIM.

In terms of doing stuff, I plan ahead lots to make sure there are always interesting things in the diary i.e. gigs and shows as that's what I love. These things don't just happen and you do have to spend a bit of this me finding out what's happening in your area that you fancy then get it booked!

LockedOutOfMN · 26/06/2016 13:35

I would say I am pretty energetic. I don't sleep much and never have, since birth, my dad is the same.

I exercise everyday, usually a 25-45 minute jog/run or an hour in the gym, I mostly work out with light-ish free weights, and I play basketball for 2 hours twice a week. I'm a teacher so my job is relatively active. If I can't exercise for 2 or 3 days for any reason, I feel a bit crap (probably psychosomatic).

I don't eat breakfast which I know I should but I've never been able to bring myself to do it. I just drink water in the mornings. I eat lots of vegetables, quite a lot of fruit, and I eat tuna more or less everyday (despite the warnings about mercury). I will also have a coffee everyday, usually after lunch. I eat fruit midmorning and then a big lunch around 2.30pm, a snack at about 6.30pm (fruit/ toast/ porridge) which sometimes becomes a big snack and therefore counts as dinner, otherwise I'll eat a light dinner (salad with some seeds/nuts/chicken) around 9pm.

All day I drink lots of water. I rarely drink alcohol, even more rarely spirits, I rarely eat red meat and I don't drink milk or eat yoghurt, ice-cream, cream, etc. but I do eat cheese (say, once a week). All of my food and drink choices are based on what I like. I do eat bread, probably most days, and I do eat processed food sometimes, and when it's not hot I will eat chocolate, probably 3 or 4 times per week, but I do genuinely like eating salads, fruit salads, fresh fish and things like that. I don't really like sauces so I eat my food pretty dry and plain, but that's how I like it.

Hope this helps?

My exercise has calmed down at the moment as I'm pregnant. But I would normally go for a run with dh 3 times a week, and I go to pole dancing classes once a week with friends. I also push ds pram and walk the dog everyday.

My diet, when not pregnant I love a drink but I only have wine on Friday and Saturdays The rest of the time No alcohol.

I do have a take away once every 2 weeks.
I eat fish 2 times a week and meat once a week( never processed meat bacon sausauges ) dinners are always cooked with loads of fresh veg or salad.
I snack with sticks of carrot, peppers, hummus dip. Sometimes grapes and nuts.
I do have chocolate when I fancy it. Normally only 4 squares of white or dark.
If I want a cake, biscuit I home bake it so I know what has gone in to it.

It is something you just have to get up and give it a go, find an exercise class you think you might like a just try it if it's not for you change the class until one suits. Food don't ban any food.

I think I'm energetic, although often tired at the mo as I have a one year old who was sleeping through and now going back to broken sleep, inexplicably, is hard. But I get a lot done every day despite this.
I do some form of exercise 5 days a week - gym, dvd at home, long walk with the buggy, 10 mins of circuits and weights at home - yesterday I had a skiing lesson! That definitely counts. It's important for me to mix things up to keep it interesting.
I eat well, lots of fruit and veg and protein (and way too much chocolate but I'm working on it).
To get stuff done and have productive days, I use a bullet journal. I also am keeping a line a day 5 year diary, and have a journal where I do big entries every few months. I'm constantly reflecting (on the good things I've acheived) and planning for the future, I find both equally motivational.
The more you do the more you want to do. One interest or hobby or friend may lead to another and life becomes very large and rich :) just begin! :)

For me it is definitely lists and being mindful of what I want to achieve on a particular day.

If I have too many thoughts running through my head i feel overloaded and end up slumping and de-motivated.

I organise my thoughts and everything falls into place.

I have 5 children and run a full time business. Days are different depending on school clubs, time of year for business.

So each week I write my objectives and each morning I write what I would like to achieve. I limit the pressure so might write 20 minutes exercise but once I start normally end up doing 40. I might write have healthy lunch but end up eating healthy lunch and dinner.

If I don't write my lists my life goes to shit! DH loves my lists! He knows only good comes from them Smile

Accomplishing my lists makes me feel in control of my life and in turn makes me
Energetic in life in general!

Onedayinthesun · 26/06/2016 15:43

I make it a deliberate decision everyday to pack in everything I want to get done. I'm big on setting goals personally and professionally.

My routine in the week looks like this :

Early to bed, about 9.30pm. Up at 5am for dog walk with DH, favourite time of day - walking round our neighbourhood, time together to talk and feel energised for the day.
Home by 6am - loads of black coffee and vitamins - primrose, sage, turmeric, omega 3,6,9, zinc, magnesium and C.
Get kids up at 7am, shower, dressed & porridge with fruit.
Work full time - I write my goals down everyday and set my priorities around completing the activities that will move me closer to achieving them.
Home, tea, taxi service for kids, catch up on more work, about an hour of TV, social media & bed.

I squeeze in 2 gym sessions of high intensity cardio strength training a week and try my best to make good choices with my food. Chocolate and Wine still figure highly in my diet regularly Smile

"The trouble is, you think you have time...." - I live by this.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 26/06/2016 15:50

I exercise 3 to 4 times a week, in the evening.
I used to have toast or porridge for breakfast, now I have swapped to Greek yoghurt and eggs and I don't get a mid-morning slump anymore. I haven't cut out bread though (no chance of this ever happening!) I just have it as a pre-gym snack instead of breakfast.

Also, when I get home on a night I don't sit down until I have done everything that needs doing that night. Once by backside hits the couch it's game over, so I keep going as long as I can before then.

Also, like pp, I prioritise. I exercise, cook from scratch, and do crafts with DD because it's important to me, but I can't remember the last time I cleaned the windows or washed the curtains.

JamieVardysParty · 26/06/2016 15:59

I don't have kids Grin I think that makes a big difference.

I exercise 5-6 times a week for at least 40 mins. Walk everywhere. At least 8 hours sleep. Lots of veg.

I also work from home and set my own hours, so know when I am at my most productive.

I think what is also important is that I give myself time off to do nothing - either just surf the Internet, read or watch TV. By dedicating an hour or so to do that, I think that keeps you more disciplined and you don't feel like rebelling and just being lazy all the time.

maninawomansworld01 · 29/06/2016 00:08

srslylikeomg
Who cooks those meals maninawomansworld?

Well, either DW or myself, not sure who else would do it really.
The boys are 3 years old and the dogs haven't mastered the oven yet.

idontlikealdi · 14/10/2016 19:09

Go o bed early! If I have to be up at 530 as I often do I go to bed at 9. Everything is achievable if you have enough sleep.

nonameavaliable · 14/10/2016 19:35

Haha my knickname at work is Duracell lol.

I am happy content and well rested on 2 hours sleep a night and can go days without sleep if necessary.

I work out twice a day
Morning is either running (10km) or swimming (hour of different strokes on a rotation of 4 lengths for each stroke at a good pace)
Evening is weights different muscle group each every 4th evening off when I go to be sauna and steam and yoga or Pilates class instead.

I eat a very healthy diet lots of fresh veg, clean proteins, low gi carbs, etc.etc. with the exception of one day a week when I eat whatever I like (think of it as diet for life)

I drink lots an lots of water - i could be a fish tbh. I do drink caffine in the form of coffee but I have it up for a while but hated herbal teas!

I don't eat bread as it doesn't suit me.

I don't smoke, I do drink occassionally on my day off of healthy.

I work in an incredibly stressful job, physically, emtionally and metally demanding. I.work solely indoors and see very little natural daylight when at work. I work shifts. In my job it is very easy to get run down and or ill so I do everything I can to protect myself.

I take a few supplements just to guard against problems. I have heart disease, diabetes type ii, genetic cancers, osteoporosis and high bloody pressure in family history.

I am very focused, and can concentrate for hours at a time - you have to in my job. It is hard to start with but once you get into the swing of it you feel so much better it becomes as easy as breathing to continue.

OnceMoreIntoTheBleach · 14/10/2016 19:38

Not enough motivation or energy to write anything place marking Grin

oldlaundbooth · 14/10/2016 19:48

I think diet makes a huge difference TBH.

Especially if you ditch the junk and alcohol.

HmmmmBop · 14/10/2016 19:59

Get up at 5.30 - do an hour and a half of ashtanga yoga most days.

Learn new things / keep brain active.

No sugar, no meat, no tea and coffee. Lots of fruit and veg.

Bed at 9.30.
