He has said, according to BBC news that there will be 'Consequences' for GB so that other European countries will not follow example

What an organisation! Bullying, threatening. Big Brother. Dreadful megalomaniacs.

I think some people will regret voting leave and I think that the EU (and Germany in particular) will regret voting in a federalist President who purposely tried to humiliate the UK in an attempt to stop us voting leave.
I do not believe we should be surprised that this is the attitude of the EU now we have voted, but I think the UK will have no choice but to survive the fall out which may not be true for the EU if contagion starts.

:) :) That is exactly the position of the EU. And frankly, given the intemperate comments from the Leave campaign, the massive lies and the exaggerations, can you really blame them for wanting to be shot of the whole thing so that they can focus on those Members actually in the EU?

Wanting to get on with the exit process, and wanting to concentrate on those who are remaining in the EU are both totally to be expected.

It's the choice of language, not the (entirely predictable) substance that I think they got wrong.

HINBU

Hopefully this will stop other nations jumping off the cliff behind the UK. I happen to think peace across Western Europe is a good thing, so am not particularly keen to see the organisation that's achieved this for the past 70 years (after 1000 years of blood shed) unravel.

Of course they have to take a strong stand, otherwise the right-wing movements across Europe would have a field day (they still may, and we'll have a lot to answer for if so). Yes, they're clearly going to sacrifice the UK, but this was always going to be the result of a Brexit vote. Leavers will have to own this one. It isn't as if the EU didn't warn us!

Go Schultz.... You're doing a great job of maybe inspiring other nations to LTB

More accurately, I'd say he is making those who don't believe the UK should dictate what happens next and when very happy

What did you expect OP.

A measured response? Why? Have you been listening to the Leave campaign? Has there been anything measured about the descriptions of the EU and Shultz?

They've been called corrupt, evil, dishonourable. They've been blamed for everything from the depletion of the oceans to lack of council flats in Doncaster!

Did you seriously expect good manners from them?

"Did you seriously expect good manners from them?"

Yes.

I expect good standards from all levels of government.

I do realise that does not always happen. But lapses do not make it right. And I doubt very much he was speaking off the cuff.

Compare to the tone of eg Saddiq Khan, who did not see the result he had hoped for, but spoke well today and was polite about all parties.

It's like this, OP:

YOU: I'm thinking of leaving you
ME: Oh no, please stay, I love you
YOU: No. You're horrible. I'm off.
ME: OK then, see you
YOU: Erm...can I stay on the sofa and piss off you and all your mates for 3 months or so while I sort my head out?
ME: No. Fuck off.

This is how life works. HTH.

GetAHaircutCarl · 24/06/2016 19:53

Well you are extremely naive dildo.

There has been nothing well mannered or measured about the Leave campaign. The tone was set.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 24/06/2016 19:58

The conduct of the campaign within the UK is a totally separate issue from the routine standards of senior international politicians.

Apples and pears are not alike. And I do not have any intention to compare them.

Indeed aye.

I keep hearing calls for unity now Grin.

I mean, we've triggered a Tory leadership election, a Labour leadership election, a general election and possibly an Indyref2.

And the Leave campaign want is all to work together. You couldn't make it up!

If a husband did this to a wife that wanted to leave a marriage, can you imagine the comments? LTB?

There are elections due in France Germany and the Netherlands in the next two years. The far right is rising. I would imagine that no one wants to encourage them.

Would he be one of the 5 (?) EU presidents on fat salaries and presumably equally fat expenses, none of whom were selected by any kind of democratic vote?

It was a clear threat and to the other countries that are wanting a ref. to.

In glad I'm not longer part of something that uses threats to bully people to stay put.

All this talk of threats is nonsense. We teach children there are consequences to their actions for goodness sake. Why are people so surprised that there are repercussions to deciding to leave the EU and the U.K. cant have it all its own way?

Report
Fitzers · 24/06/2016 20:36

In fact far from threats, it is simply making the UK face the reality of what the vote will mean. As was clearly signalled all along.

Report
bertsdinner · 24/06/2016 20:37

Said on BBC news its a balancing act. Want to give no concessions and discourage other leavers, on the other hand economists and business leaders are concerned about loss of trade.
