To ask how many voted for Brexit because they believed Leave's argument that our EU membership fees will go to the NHS etc instead?

Farage stated on Good Morning Britain that this was a "mistake". He also said that voters made a "mistake" believing it. Great.

I know lots of people who voted for remain and lots who voted to leave.

No one I know who voted for leave believed it anyway.

I believe all these people are highly intelligent and highly informed.

Do you think all leave voters are idiots? 1/2 the population believed the tripe? Come on, let's give people a bit more credit.

No. I voted Leave, but noticed that both campaigns had mentions of the NHS in their leaflets that seemed a bit out-of-place and more for point-scoring than anything. Especially the Leave campaign, if I'm honest. I also had to laugh at the map on the back of one leaflet illustrating Turkey's proximity to Syria.

I found the material sent out by both sides disappointingly simplistic, if I'm honest. I took that claim to mean that there will be £350 million saved a week, which could be spent on the NHS. Or on something else. Not a definite promise.

You are doing the NHS a disservice if you choose the ignore it and for that you don't deserve credit
I don't know why people are so dispassionate about being lied to when it involves something as important as healthcare accessible to everyone :(

I just don't understand what they believed would actually happen, Oblomov.

We haven't "taken control back", because we never lost it. Since 1999, the UK has been on the losing side of 57 EU votes and on the winning side 2474 times. We've had veto rights on crucial issues. And we've always had the right to leave. We're now exercising that right, but for what?

JellyBelly I don't believe in unlimited, uncontrolled immigration either - but Brexit won't change a thing about this! Oh yes, it will change one thing: we'll no longer have any say at all in how it's regulated. We will have to sign up to free movement, just like Switzerland has done. The Tories will agree to it as anything else would be economic suicide. We won't be asked for our opinion on the exit deal - this is IT.

I accept that most Leavers voted for very genuine reasons that have nothing to do with xenophobia. I just think they are going to be very disappointed with the end result. Huge job losses as companies relocate to other EU countries, less foreign investment (including from the Commonwealth) as the UK no longer offers free access to the EU, no more EU funds going into the NHS, local regeneration, research etc.

Oh, and break-up of the UK which was always on the cards in case of Brexit and now seems certain.

I thought the worse lie was the one about Turkey being about to join Because people really did genuinely believe that one and I think that was a big pull for leave votes.

it was the cornerstone of their TV advert too Angry. Two side by side films of a woman taking an elderly friend or relative to hospital and the Remain side resembling communist era Eastern Block and the Leave side a hospital eutopia with state of the art facilities, no waiting times and smiling well paid staff all funded by the extra £350M a week Hmm

I think Radio 4 More or Less debunked the £350M too.

The Vote Leave campaign was based on lies and scaremongering and nearly 52% of voters fell for it.
