I think he was too hasty handing his notice in today

A good PM? He's repeatedly proved himself to be an out an out liar. Of course he had to go and I'm glad he is.

Cameron did a deal with the devil: the promise of a referendum in order to prevent Tory party voters hot-footing to UKIP, in exchange for his job.

He didn't think he would have to deliver, because like everyone else, he expected to be the leader of another coalition government.

He got what he wanted, he paid the price, no sympathy here - I think it's commonly referred to as karma ;) That said, I'd prefer Cameron to Gove or Johnson (but I think we will get May).

HopeArden · 24/06/2016 15:04

I think the promise to hold a referendum was partly why he won the election in the first place. I was insulted by Labour's refusal to consider it because it's so important and is something that we really ought to decide for ourselves.

That said, I think he relied on us being too scared of change to challenge the status quo, which was a massive mistake on his part and I agree that it was really difficult to get any straightforward answers - we now live in a country where virtually all leading politicians are seen as corrupt liars, which makes it very hard to trust them when it comes to getting honest opinions.

I think most people went with their gut feeling because politicians seemed to not know ( or not be telling) the truth.

Good riddance to him.

I'm not a Tory voter, but you know things are really bad when you feel sorry that Cameron has resigned (which I do). Brexit, Boris and Gove will be worse than disastrous for many years to come.

limitedperiodonly · 24/06/2016 16:43

Why should I feel sad for him? He called a referendum on the EU as a tactical manoeuvre to neutralise the Eurosceptics in his party and the threat from UKIP. He lost.

It was an entirely selfish decision and those of us who didn't want to leave the EU are paying for it.

Meanwhile, he'll be all right.

I wish he had not resigned because I wish we had voted to Remain.
