to want a general election and not having boris Johnson running the country

I'm sorry if this has been done but I cannot stand boris Johnson. He is a laughing stock and cannot talk, he bumbles his way through a conversation and looks like he has been pulled through a hedge backwards.

We need a general election so WE get to decide who runs the country not someone that gets pick by the Tories

I'd love an election if Labour had a credible leader. If they have any sense they'll get one. I rather doubt that a government led by Johnson would last a full term.

Owllady · 24/06/2016 11:01

I can't believe people buy into his buffoon routine. He's a nasty, ruthless bastard

BorisIsBack · 24/06/2016 11:04

I need a new MN nick name. Originally this was a joke. Today it's not funny.

scarlets · 24/06/2016 11:05

If there is s general election we could end up with UKIP in coalition. No thanks.

knottedwood · 24/06/2016 11:07

Join the Tory party and vote for Not Boris.

eyebrowse · 24/06/2016 11:14

I'm not sure that there is anyone better than Boris Johnson?

Owllady · 24/06/2016 11:16

I hope that's not a general statement eyebrowse

DrDreReturns · 24/06/2016 11:17

Personally I don't think Boris will be PM. I think Theresa May or Sajid Javid are more likely.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 24/06/2016 11:20

Dre I think May is a likely option. The Tory parliamentary party is more pro-European than its membership and Johnson may not make it down to the final two.

AnnPerkins · 24/06/2016 11:32

I do not want a general election now. As scarlets says, UKIP would do well if a GE were held now, and a Con or Con/UKIP win would mean we're stuck with them until at least 2021.

It would be better for this parliament to continue. If DC's replacement fucks up Brexit, if Tory infighting rips the party apart, if somebody credible takes over leadership of Labour, if pigs fly the LibDems or Greens manage to make themselves more electable, if the people decide what they voted for yesterday is actually shit...maybe the Cons will get buried at the GE in 2020.

OhGoveUckYourself · 24/06/2016 11:37

God I never thought the day would come when I supported Cameron but Boris is a power-hungry, egomaniac and Gove ..... well I think my username says it all! Sad

Liney - party leaders are picked by the party concerned, rather than the whole electorate - different parties have different methods, and the party membership at large may get more say in the choice of leader in some parties than in others, and in Labour, the affiliated unions also get a say. But people who vote for a particular party won't get any say in the party's leader unless they are members and unless the party rules give them a vote.

Whilst people can and do base their vote on who is leading a party, they aren't voting directly for that person - it is not that direct, unlike the States, who vote for an individual as President - in the US, you could, if you wished vote for a Democratic president, but Republican Senator and Representative. Here we vote for our MPs, and the leader of the party with the most seats in the Commons is asked to form a Government.

If a party leader leaves office or dies, the UK electorate as a whole gets no say in who takes over - which means that, if the party is in government, we get no say in who becomes Prime Minister, unless we are members of that particular political party (and unless that party gives the general membership a vote on the leader).

I hope that makes a bit more sense.

Witchend · 24/06/2016 11:58

Boris or Corbyn, what a choice. I suddenly have a need to emigrate, which I never have had before.

SheHasAWildHeart · 24/06/2016 12:02

Johnson v May is what the newspapers are reporting.
I don't think Corbyn will still be Labour leader when the GE comes around.

Ailicece · 24/06/2016 12:08

A positive side to this is that even if we do end up with Boris Johnson as PM, we can choose to vote him out at the next general election so we don't have to be stuck with him forever.

Oh but we will be. Him or worse. Once Scotland secedes, which they will now do, we're stuck with a right-wing Tory government forever.

My family probably will emigrate (EU passport holders), taking our businesses with us. Luckily we can be based anywhere in the EU. Until now this has been the only place we've wanted to live, but after over 20 years here we no longer feel that way. Gutted doesn't come close.

LineyReborn · 24/06/2016 13:11

STDG I know how it works. Just not sure the OP does?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/06/2016 13:16

Sorry Liney - I misunderstood. Apologies for any offence caused. Sad

CotswoldStrife · 24/06/2016 13:18

Boris and the truth have had a fairly distant relationship at times, I feel. Corbyn seems incapable of separating his own personal agenda from the party's agenda, and if the two don't match then he's not interested in helping the party. Leadership is about making the tough decisions and I don't think either of them are up to the job Sad

Racheyg · 24/06/2016 13:39

liney thanks I know perfectly well how it works thank you.

Boris is only interested in one thing and that is Boris, hence every opportunity to appear is a PR opportunity, I would so love for him to be ignored by the public and the press.
In January 2015 Boris said in an interview that we should be part of the EU Hmm
I don't trust him
