Wearing bikini on holiday...

Dandelionsmakeyouwee · 23/06/2016 20:03

I have stretch marks and a bit of a wobbly tummy.
Is it unreasonable to want to wear a bikini on holiday?

I mean I know there are plenty of other ''sights'' that you see on holiday but I don't want to be included in them if wearing a bikini with stretch marks and a wobbly tummy is not the done thing Blush

I've bought high waist bottoms just in case.

I have stretch marks and wobbly bits and will be wearing a bikini in spain next week.
I feel a little self conscious but I feel frumpy in a full costume so makes little difference.

Wear the bikini! It really is only in Uk and America that people worry about this 'beach body' crap. I live in Greece and its difficult to spot a one piece on the beach. Stretch marks, saggy boobs and bums, scars, cellulite and fat rolls are all common sights and really dont stand out or attract judgement. Enjoy your holiday Smile

tibbawyrots · 23/06/2016 20:47

I wear a bikini and I'm not tiny. I have stretch marks etc too.

I holiday in the Canaries and see Spanish women who are bigger than me in a bikini - they are happy, I'm happy - you're on holiday. No-one knows you there!

Juanbablo · 23/06/2016 20:48

We were on holiday a few weeks ago and there were women of all shapes and sizes wearing bikinis.

Juanbablo · 23/06/2016 20:48

If you feel confident and comfortable then go for it.

Dandelionsmakeyouwee · 23/06/2016 21:02

Thanks everyone. The last holiday I went on (pre baby) was Mexico. And I only saw one woman there with stretch marks and in a bikini. I'm sure there may have been more but I didn't see them if there were.

I wasn't sure if I should, but I will wear a bikini and probably take a sarong when walking about

Wear it.

The last time I had a beach holiday, I took a one-piece because I didn't think my body was good enough for a bikini. I realised after a few minutes that I was literally the only woman on the beach not wearing a bikini. I stood out far more and actually ended up feeling more self-conscious.

I do take a one-piece for the pool though because I love going down a water slide or two and bikinis don't deal very well with them imo Grin

Purplehonesty · 23/06/2016 21:29

I'm not big but have a wobbly baby belly
I bought a tankini for swimming with the kids here but come August I am going to wear my bikini and not care.

Well not care an awful lot
Nobody knows me over there that's my thought!!

Pebbles16 · 23/06/2016 21:40

I wear a one piece (medical reasons). My 75 year old Portuguese MIL rocks a bikini with bilateral '60s operations scarring (think a hot cross bun, her words not mine) and she's far from teeny. In fact she rocks a
Bikini bottom because she's more than often topless as well! No one will ever care as much as you do. Wear them whilst you can

JimmyGreaves snap!
I'm a Scottish redhead and was a size 16 when we went our last holiday abroad 2 years ago to Tunisia. I didn't take bikinis because I thought I couldn't get away with it. There were women from teens to their 90s in our resort, every shape and size and every single one of them was in a bikini not giving a fuck. I was sweating away in my one piece wishing to the gods I'd just bit the bullet and taken the bikini. Do it! We've just booked for Morocco in October, I'm now between a 14 and a 16 and I will be shopping for bikinis very shortly Grin

MrsMook · 23/06/2016 21:57

A big bump an a CS has left me with a disproportionate mum tum and spare skin. I got a lovely high waisted bikini from M&S with padded top to maximise my bust. I feel confident with it tucked in. I decided that I wasn't going to ban myself from ever wearing a bikini again, and it was worth shopping around to find one that I feel good in.

prettybird · 23/06/2016 22:00

This discussion reminded me of this very appropriate description of who can or should wear a bikini......Wink

Oh FFS put on your bloody bikini and go and enjoy yourself. We can't all be young, slim, perfect, toned etc. Life is for living. Enjoy it.

Stretch marks! Oh big deal! Sorry. I'm so wound up tonight but really, if it bothers you so much then I am sorry. What will you do when you are older? Not holiday? You are worth as much as anyone else. Just because there are folk out there who are rich enough to perfect their bodies, doesn't mean you are any less worthy of enjoying your holiday.

My point of view is it took years to achieve my body, I gave birth twice via CS, to two beautiful and perfect children. I don't expect to look any better than I do. I don't care. I am here, I am healthy. Sod the Kardashians... and any other person who looks good artificially, or naturally. Life is about so much more than appearances. (steps off soap box.....)

Fauchelevent · 23/06/2016 22:12

If anyone is judging you for choosing to wear a bikini it says way more about their confidence levels than it does about you. I have the confidence of a vapid early 20s millenial with no kids (Blush selfies have been known to occur) and i never notice other people's beach bodies other than to envy your gorgeous bikinis!

Britain or not, if you're comfortable wearing it, fuck anyone else who wants to put you down to make themselves feel better. Bikinis belong to hot weather and water - a woolly hat and jumper, now that'd be daft.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/06/2016 22:33

Wear a bikini and enjoy yourself, just like everyone else on the beach that you'll never see again. A decent bikini can look better than a swimsuit and really, no-one cares. There are guaranteed to be women that are bigger and wobblier than you and most people will be worrying about their own hang ups.

I'm reasonably happy with my figure, but I'm ridiculously pale English rose and freckly so look at everyone with any sort of a tan with envy.

ladymariner · 26/06/2016 23:34

Size 16-18 here, and always wear bikinis on holiday.....I like to get as much of a tan as possible, and my attitude is, if you don't like how I look then look away!!
The one thing I will say though is make sure it fits properly!! I have massive boobs, so I get my bikinis from Bravissimo, the top is sized like a bra would be so you don't either fall out of it or have the squashed pancake effect.
