Or does it?

One of us says that if you're having toast and peanut butter, or toast with Nutella, you don't put butter on as well, IE under the PB or N

The other insists that you do and it tastes wrong without it...

The one who says no butter says that with butter it is useless extra fat and calories...

YABothBU.
Toast + butter = perfection

Nothing else is required.
The rest goes on plain bread. (Although melted Nutella sounds good. Hmmm)

Believeitornot · 22/06/2016 07:57

Butter + PB = food of the god

Yes oh yes.

ButtonLoon · 22/06/2016 07:58

Never with either, ew!

Rshard · 22/06/2016 08:00

DD is currently eating 1 slice of toast with Nutella and 1 with peanut butter. No butter on either.

She likes to make a 'snickers' sandwich!

CremeEggThief · 22/06/2016 08:01

Never. Nutella, jam, marmalade, lemon curd, peanut butter and marmite are alternatives to butter or spread.

Shock

But but but what about hot buttered toast with homemade chunky marmalade?! Sometimes I can't decide between that or with PB and butter.

scarednoob · 22/06/2016 08:03

Hot toast with melty butter.

OR peanut butter. Not both.

Nutella has no place on toast and should be saved for ice cream, pancakes and illicit scoffing with a spoon.

NorthernChinchilla · 22/06/2016 08:05

Yes to all. PB, jam, marmalade, pate, Nutella, EVERYTHING.
Why deny the gorgeous salty fattyness of butter with everything?

Btw, toast has to be Warburton's toasties loaf, none of your artisan crap Wink

angryangryyoungwoman · 22/06/2016 08:05

Depends entirely on my mood and preferences at the time. Sometimes with, sometimes without

lalaloopyhead · 22/06/2016 08:08

For me hot melty butter is a no no with anything. I like to let the toast cool so the butter just sits on the top without melting, so as not to end up with soggy toast. Butter is essential for marmite, jam and marmalade, definitely not required for Nutella and to be honest I can go either way with PB - these days I am more likely not butter due from a calorie point of view.

ilove · 22/06/2016 08:09

When you all say butter, is that proper butter or I-can't-believe-it's-not-butter pretend stuff?

OP posts:
LazyMilk · 22/06/2016 08:11

I can't get enough of honey on toast at the minute. Definitely with butter!

strawberrypenguin · 22/06/2016 08:13

Don't like PB but yes to butter with choc spread. The toast is too dry otherwise

branofthemist · 22/06/2016 08:14

butter, or I wouldn't call it butter.Wink

TwoLittleBlooms · 22/06/2016 08:16

Yes to peanut butter, no to chocolate spread. Also, not butter - olive spread or something like. Can't stand real butter!

ChickyDuck · 22/06/2016 08:17

All toast needs butter, regardless on the topping! I prefer buttered toast with a thin scrape of my chosen topping, which is possible with the nice lubricated buttery surface. No more calories that the thick layer you would end up with otherwise.

Ugh

No and no

icklekid · 22/06/2016 08:21

Well I don't like peanut butter but dh never has butter with it so don't put it on for ds...then again both dh and I are wierd as don't have butter in sandwiches either...

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 22/06/2016 08:22

Yes to butter with everything when on toast. Sandwich, I'll butter one slice and not the other. PB and chocolate spread is lovely, as is PB and honey/syrup/raspberry jam/maple syrup, but you have to add extra salt because otherwise there's not enough contrast.

JuneFromBethesda · 22/06/2016 08:23

Yes to both. Yes to all. Butter with everything!

I like your thinking, Edmund Grin

I don't like Nutella but butter with peanut butter, oh yes.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 22/06/2016 08:23

butter is always good, it is never wrong and should be spread on more or less everything to make it more buttery and tasty.

LizzieMacQueen · 22/06/2016 08:24

I've just had my toast with sllightly salted REAL butter and nutella. IMO you need the saltiness of the butter to counter the sweetness of the choc spread.

Bad for the fat content but I'm not counting calories at the moment.

ThornyBird · 22/06/2016 08:25

No butter with any spreadable topping EXCEPT marmite. It's butter OR jam/choc spread/lemon curd/biscoff etc Smile

Backingvocals · 22/06/2016 08:26

This is the only referendum that matters.

I'm IN (the butter party).
