To be a bit nervous that my PFB is going on a 5 day school trip tomorrow?

Ok so she is 11 and more than old enough but she will be so far away with 90 other kids and only 9 teachers. And they are doing watersports in the sea one day!

Anyone else get anxious when their DC go away?

When mine went away and I felt anxious I thought of my mum who was an evacuee and how her parents felt when they sent her of from war torn London. It puts a three day school trip in proportion!

My dd went off fine this morning, i had a little tear on my way to work Blush I know rationally she will be fine but found myself checking the news for any coach crashes!!

Roll on Wednesday....

Justwondering -my DD had her first 3 day classe de mer at 4 and 10 day classe de neige at 9 but I still feel just as anxious and miserable about her going away now (-she's 10.5 and off on a sports camp this summer.)

So, yanbu, OP. It only gets a bit better when they're older teens and can text/ skype you from their jaunts away!

I remember going on a school cruise ( the Nevasa) to Norway and Denmark 42 years ago when I was 10.....remember no mobiles in those days, for pupils or teachers!.... There was a force 10 gale in the North Sea at the time....I was totally unaware that my parents were probably beside themselves with worry , when in fact I was having a ball!!
One of my mums friends said she'd admired how well my parents had coped and it gave her confidence larger when her kids went on school trips
My 3 dcs have been on week long brownie /guide and beaver camps as well as sailing activity holidays since the age of 8 and I've never felt I forced them to go or that they were fearful of going....in fact my ds1 is planning to teach in SE Asia after University and ds 2 is off to Bangkok and Koh Samui next week...
give them wings and they will fly....Flowers

Mine was away last week. Tuesday to Friday. Sixty kids to six teachers.

I was honestly fine leading up to the trip and whilst she was away. It flew by. I did feel a bit wobbly emotionally as the bus drove away but for no other reason than just feeling a bit overwhelmed at how independent and grown up she is now and proud because she was totally find and not fazed .

Your dd will be fine. There's other workers there helping the teachers.

My PFB (all strapping 14yrs of him!) went off to Switzerland at lunchtime today with school. Took him to school today and dragged a last cuddle out of him before he got out the car Smile

I KNOW he will have a ball.
I KNOW he is lucky to be doing the trip.
I KNOW he wont give me a second thought.
I KNOW we will have a peaceful few days with no arguments over computers and phones, no getting up at the last minute etc etc etc.....

But a couple of times today I have caught myself thinking about him and having to take deep breaths Smile
Tidied up all the mess round his bed, you know the one he was supposed to do yesterday, and stripped the bed and despite the annoyance of having to do it all myself I still missed him.

He may be bigger than me and a royal pia at times but hes still my baby. I just tidied out the attic at wkend and found his first baby clothes, he was in 'tiny baby' stuff as just 5lb 5 oz. I couldnt believe how small they were. Where did the time go?

I sent my 9 yr old son to france for a week at easter with a charity i felt sick he had a great time he did get homesick but thats to be expected we were advised not yo speak on the phone as that would make them more anxious so i didnt but i could follow them on facebook it also helped they had had a big mass two days before they came home which i could view on you tube and saw him twice all in all though it was a fabulous experince and i,m glad he went

Bananasinpyjamas1 · 22/06/2016 23:05

Yes my son was 13 years old and the first time away and I still got VERY nervous! I didn't get a text from him for 3 days as he could only Skype and the wifi was dodgy.

But it was one of the best things I think he has done in his whole life so far. He had an absolute ball.

I must admit to being a bit nervous that my daughter has signed up for a school trip to the Palestinian territories this autumn!
