TBH he's just moved out of a single bed that had daisies on the headboard as we bought it for dd too, so a star won't faze him!!

I don't think ds would mind it. However why don't you get him a new one and keep that as his sisters. If he's always had second hand ones that would surely be fairer. (can you tell I'm a second child!)

You could always make it more "his" by letting him choose some really nice stickers to put on it. Lots to choose from on Amazon, notonthehighstreet.com etc.

We have bought him other new furniture for his new room - he's not entirely hard done by :)

And he has football and dino stickers to personalise his new room...

I would update with paint or stickers it to make it new to him. It would even be possible to remove the round bedknobs to give it a more modern aesthetic.

It's just a plain wooden bed frame, what is girly about that? My DS had a white wooden bed with pink covers that he chose himself. His penis hasn't dropped off.

IMO , it is too childish , I'd buy similar for a younger child but when my DS was 9yo he was in one of those cabin bed styles with a desk underneath .

YY paint it, cover the bedends in pictures of his SuperHero type pictures that you can remove when he gets bored of them.

DD is 9, she would think it's babyish - I dread to think what ds's opinion would have been at the same age.

Why is your son getting second hand beds? but your daughter gets the new ones?
Surely you should work out a budget and get them both new ones if they're both getting 'new rooms' depending on the amount you have spare?

I don't think it looks like a bed for a 9 year old boy. it looks very.. young/toddler like. Maybe let him pick a colour to paint it in?

Also be careful of always giving your DS his sisters cast offs! Doesn't seem fair if she always gets the new things and he gets lumped with hers. I bought 2beds for that price when doing kids rooms.

I'm with pp on asking why you buy your dd new beds but your ds only gets her old ones? I'm not against hand me downs for younger siblings but your ds currently has his sister's old bed and she got a new one, now she's getting another new bed so he's stuck with another of her old beds. If you can afford over £300 for a new bed it would be much fairer to buy two new cheaper beds, or tell your dd it's ds's turn for a new bed.

OK, thanks. It's not actually babyish in the flesh, so to speak. It's a lovely, well made bed. DD is 12 and still likes the bed; doesn't think it's babyish.

Painting would be no good - the surface is really nice, and painting it would look crap.

DS isn't hard done by - I was joking earlier? - the dc have roughly similar amounts spent on them, according to what they need.

DS has a new desk, for example, whereas dd's one was a Freecycle bargain!

DD is getting a new double bed as ds is moving into what was our spare room, so we still have a double bed for guests - dd will move out of her room then. Swings and roundabouts...
