In terms of the damage they do?

AIBU for not thinking or knowing this?

I don't drink every night maybe a glass of red wine 4 nights throughout the course of the week but never more than 2 glasses.

A colleague says drinking and smoking are on a par!

I genuinely didn't think this.

AIBU -and the only one who thought my glass of red was a great after a hard day!!--

Then you have people who are teetotal because they are on full time medication that means you cant drink even a drop of alcohol.

almost all substances are toxic in excess, some are toxic in minute amounts and some aren't
obviously substances vary widely in toxicity on a mg per mg basis but that doesnt really tell us much

when looking at substances used for their intoxicating or mind altering effects it is useful look at toxicity relative to 'intoxicity'

when compared to other drugs alchol has a high level of toxicity relative to it's capacity to intoxicate

Angelo's bar one or two extreme cases, I see the same thing.

The most important factor I se for people past the first flush of youth is keeping active. Once something happens to impair that things can go downhill rapidly.
