To think that Machiavelli is not a suitable name for a boy?

I was out in town today and heard a woman call out the name Machiavelli and a little boy ran up to her and answered 'yes mum'. Given that the historical figure Machiavelli was a manipulative schemer, AIBU to think it's not an appropriate name for a little child. I couldn't quite believe my ears the first time I heard the name but she repeated the name once more & the poor child responded once more to the name. The poor little fellow is going to be ripped apart when he grows older.

What on earth where his parents thinking when they chose the name. Can anyone top this name in the Confused whackiest name poll?

I used to call smallest DC "Binky" as a pet name.

Someone once asked me if that was his real name Confused.

Why would you name your child after Death's horse?

Casimir · 18/06/2016 06:11

read his works, he wasn't as machiavellian as we think.

GoudyStout · 18/06/2016 06:17

Not so much after Death's horse, more like after a yellow bulldog MrsTP.

Everytime I read an article about the Icelandic Naming Committee I shake my head. Everytime I read a thread like this I become more confident the Icelanders actually have the right idea.

Someone where I work named their baby
Mini.
The surname was Cooper Confused

I always thought Satan had a nice ring to it. Shame about the connotations.

Spell it Saytun and nobody will notice it. Grin

Machiavelli is a lot less weird than calling your DS Cain/Kane - which was popular the 90s. "Yes, I named my child after a mythical figure famous only for killing his brother" Hmm

They were inspired - if that is a word that can ever be applied to Jeffrey Archer - by the Jeffrey Archer novel, Kane & Abel but obviously the title alludes to the Bible story, so it doesn't make choosing the name any less weird.

I like the idea of naming DC after philosophers. Anyone for Kant? Grin

The Cain thing really baffles me. And never Abel- which is an OK name.

kinkytoes · 18/06/2016 08:23

Lweji Grin I'd love to see someone try that!

I know a Stella. Full name Stella Artois Smith so called as that was what her parents were hammered on during the drunken bunkup that let to her cobpnception. Just as well it wasn't Tennents Super.
