Royal Mail and Postmen/Postpeople.

If you live in a block of flats or a gated courtyard (as I do) would you expect the postperson to come straight to your door to deliver your package or would you be ok with being buzzed to go down and get it?

All couriers or delivery peeps will come to my door. Royal Mail want me to go to the front gate. If I was on my own I would not have a problem but I have a two year old and it would mean having to leave her for a few minutes to go and get my package.

AIBU to think that Royal Mail should actually come to my door?
God it makes me sound so fucking entitled but It's just a pain, having to put my shoes on, find my keys and make sure the LO is in a safe place, before having to go out there.

Also just for the record, I do have another regular postman, who goes straight to everyone's door without a problem.

YANBU, Royal Mail and their delivery staff are contracted to get mail to the delivery address, and that means to your door. It sounds like that Postie is just lazy.

nofuchs there is an entry buzzer system. The OP can buzz him in, but when she answers, instead of going to the flat, he asks her to come down instead.

But does that mean he buzzes each flat individually so they each take their turn to walk to the gate?

Nofuchs, two of them do buzz each individual flat and sometimes we all end up having a little meeting at the front gate.

Depending on how everything was originally set up the delivery could be correct to either the building door or the individual flat doors. Op where are letters delivered to?

Letters are posted through our designated postbox at the front gate.

If you have a postbox on the gate, that's the delivery point. There's no obligation to come to your door.

That's the official delivery point then and they should deliver parcels to the same point. It would be nice if they'd deliver to the separate flats but their walks won't allow them time to do so.

This is a package not a letter so not feasible to leave in a post box?

Georoute is timed to first delivery point. It sucks but it's the way Royal Mail works. If you want a courier service use a courier.

Thanks everyone for your input. Citalo, thats absolutely fair enough. That is the main delivery point but I do find it abit odd that he would have to buzz each individual flat for each person to have to go down and get their parcel.

Anyway, I did call Royal Mail for clarification and they did say that the postman was not following correct procedures. He needs to go direct to the receivers door.

So I guess that's answered my question.
