AIBU to be sceptical when the op disappears

It happens several times a day here. Op posts something people come down on both sides of the argument and froth at each other adding more and more to the story and op isn't heard from for hours if at all.
Surely if you have time to post something you have time to stick around to see what at least the first few replies say and reply.
AIBU to suspect them of refreshing like mad whilst rubbing their hairy little hands together and chuckling menacingly at all the drama they have caused?

I think it could be a mark of a troll in some cases, but it can be hard to come back to a thread sometimes, especially if some posters have disagreed with you very strongly. I've had to brace myself to do it a couple of times...I imagine it could be very easy just to step away.

I once asked on a thread that I had written on several times during the course of a couple of days if the OP could give an update. Never again!

people shot me down as over involved, thrill seeking, ghoulish etc.

I just think it is really rude to post something and never follow it up. even just a "thanks guys plenty to think about here" would be fine.

the problem I think lies in the fact that lots of users change their names every week so you cant watch out for the people who always post a thread and never reply.

I think MN should restrict the number of name changes or at least make it clear that someone has had several other identities by using little brackets with the number of times they have changed in as in mummymeister (0) or a.n.other (30)
