To wonder what's the real reason Cameron wants us to stay in the EU?

In recent decades, the phrases "mental retardation", "mentally retarded", and "retarded" initially used in a medical manner, are regarded as derogatory and politically incorrect much like moron, imbecile, cretin, dolt and idiot, formerly used as scientific terms in the early 20th century.

Agreed, there are legitimate reasons for both outcomes so how people weigh pros and cons differs.

In my opinion the reasons for staying outweigh the reasons for leaving.

it would reflect badly on him if he was responsible for the shitstorm if we left. The only reason he called the referendum was because he said he would, he never thought there would be any chance we'd actually vote to leave.

Yes, this. If he'd been able to control his own party we'd never be in this mess.

He wants us to say in the EU, otherwise he and his government will have to start making decisions for the UK, rather than the unelected EU overlords doing it.

lavenderdoilly · 14/06/2016 13:37

Or the unelected House of Lords. BTW, you do know it could have been the queen's call as to who would form a government if we'd had a hung parliament after the last election. That's British democracy rather than any euro crap.

"He wants us to say in the EU, otherwise he and his government will have to start making decisions for the UK, rather than the unelected EU overlords doing it."

Ah now that's another classic Brexit lie.

We have 70 something MEPs - elected MEPs. That's around 10% of the total, so for 28 countries we are over represented in the EU. MEPs appoint officials to act.

We are the EU. Its us telling us what to do.

Cameron is not a thinker nor an idealist nor someone who can think longterm. He is a middle manager, good at making an off the cuff speech and chairing a meeting. He wants us to Remaim because it represents (he thinks) the continuance of the status quo and thus an easy life. The EU is the great Post-parliament gravy train that all MPs can get on, and politically it means that politicians always have the "EU" to blame for any tricky problems like massive immigration, inability to deport foreign criminals, free moment of terrorists etc etc.

By the time the EU shit really hits the fan in the next few years Cameron will be out of office and enjoying his cushy EU job like so many others before him.
