AIBU?

To think that the school should mention that the kids get access to unlimited access to beetroot at the salad bar? (possible TMI alert!)

I probably am aren't I? We get the menu but not mention of what is available at the salad bar. DS goes to the toilet regularly most evenings, and we have been summoned to the bathroom by a worried 7 year old DS 4 times now because his poo is, not pink, but really, really looks full of blood.
I freaked the first time, and didn't even think to ask him what he'd been eating (stupid, I know) and raced him to the doctor, where a calm and lovely doctor asked him the golden question, and reassured me that was most likely cause. I was supplied with a sample bottles, in case it happened again- which it has. DS is a beetroot fiend, so we ask him now if he has eaten any before fishing about in poo with a sample bottle!!
As far as I know, no other parents have had poo panic, but surely it is worth letting parents know if they allowed to eat as much of something as they like, that could cause alarming changes to bodily functions?

FYI- DS had an internal haemorrhage when he was 14 months, had to undergo emergency surgery and almost died, due to a meckle's diverticulum that was creating stomach acid and eating through his bowel , so I am totally open to the idea that I may being completely loony over sensitive :)

I love beetroot. Never noticed poo though.

At school a mum made a cake that was blue and glittery. Guess what? The toddlers had blue glittery poo!

Those blue slushy drinks turn it green just in case anyone's child ever panics about that.

You're a tiny bit bonkers OP, but for totally understandable reasons.

Is it wrong that I quite want to sneak some glitter into my children's food now?

Narky I was just thinking about the time DD had had a blue slush and she was potty training and the whole thing came out bright green! We were a bit alarmed at the time.

An adult friend of a friend had anal sex with her boyfriend for the first time and the next time she went to the loo she did a red poo. Extremely worried and not sure what to do next, she bit the bullet and phoned her dad (who was a GP). She'd just confessed in far too much detail, when she heard her mum saying in the background "wouldn't that be the beetroot she had for tea?" Blush Blush
I think they all pretended that conversation never happened.

[sorry to hijack thread, just thought I'd share]

We've had the green poo after a blue slushy too. We were staying at my mother's and she wanted to call an ambulance! I am pretty anti bright blue drinks and lollies but DD had sneaked one in while out that afternoon and as soon as I found that out I knew it had to be connected.

grumpy that is brilliant Grin
marco..yup, I have to drink alot of it though!
Oooh yes, I have seen the blue slushy poo, it's alarming to say the least, and I don't normally allow my dc anything too frighteningly coloured for exactly this reason! Also would like to echo those who would now like to try glitter experiments...

I've not read the whole thread sorry but just wanted to say my Ds had meckels diverticulum when he was 6 months and I would react exactly the same as you!

His surgeon said there was a chance his intestines would link at some point in his life, like 10%, so every time he had a stomach ache I would be at the gp's. I've calmed down now as he's 9 but a toilet with what looks like blood would make me freak out!

My gosh, badmum I have never met another person who has been through it. I wish I could relax more, I am still on alert for stomach pain etc, ds's surgeon told us scar tissue could be an issue among other things. It wouldn't cause internal hemmorage, but once you've seen that much blood in poo... I still shudder when I think of it. All still seems so recent!

I don't think I'll ever relax with this Ds! I over react with him where as I'm more relaxed with his siblings. Maybe it's the almost loosing him??

Good news is my bil also had this as a child (he was 9) and has no complications since and he's early thirties now.

The beetroot thing I never knew about! I know it can change the colour of urine but this is new to me. My Ds's don't go near the salad bar so I have no knowledge if beetroot is an option, menu just says salad bar. But a bit of clarification would be nice I guess.
