if she's only wearing a nappy and doesn't really feel warm to the touch?

and any tips for keeping babies cool in this heat would be much appreciated!

When my DD was a baby, we lived in a flat that trapped heat like an oven. I kept the windows open, put a fan on, open and closed curtain to shut out the sun etc. Whatever I did, it was nearly 30 degrees in there for weeks on end. That bloody Grobag Egg did nothing but frown at me all summer. I worried myself sick that she'd overheat.

I couldn't have her in with me as my bedroom was the same temperature and her cot wouldn't fit anyway. But she survived. I used to put her to sleep in just a nappy or a sleeveless vest and she was fine. Your baby will be too. Honestly.

They don't advise this strange 16C temperature anywhere else, it is a peculiar British thing, which leads me to think it's bollocks. Don't wrap him up in a duvet, and he will honestly be fine.

DS used to wake up complaining if it was as cold as 16C anyway. Don't blame him, it's miserable.

In lots of countries 25C isn't even really considered hot, it's barely warm. I only live in Germany, which is hardly the tropics, and they laugh at me thinking 20C outside is hot weather!

Your baby is perfectly safe, don't worry.

My 12 week old regularly does. No choice as in this heat all our rooms are 24 c + regardless of how many windows we open. He's in nappy and bamboo swaddle and never feels hot - just normal.

One of the baby nurses when DS was in NICU said parents are so worried about overheating babies these days in most cases they're underdressed.

A useful tip I was given WRT temperature is to feel the back of the baby's neck. If it's sweaty they are too hot. If it feels cool they are too cold. It's normal for them to feel quite warm verging on hot - you tend to know if they have a temperature because they just feel obviously wrong.

We put ds down in a 1 tog nappy and long sleeve top and trouser pj's! In 24° room. He is fine Smile

I was thinking that either DD was born on a particularly hot summer or for some reason the rooms in my house have somehow adapted to reflect heat as they never feel as terrifyingly hot as they did in the first few months of her life.

Then I remembered I am no longer a sleep deprived neurotic doom monger and I kicked the grow egg to death 3 years ago. Heat problem solved Grin

I don't understand the 16-18 degree thing either, that’s bloody freezing and I wouldn't want to sleep in a room that cold.
In our old house on a properly hot day our bedrooms were 32 degrees so DS slept in a nappy and a sheet. Not restful but survivable.

We bought one of those egg things when I was still in hospital after having DS. Plugged it in and temp on the ward was 24 - and the midwives kept worrying that I wasn't keeping him warm enough!
