It's not unreasonable to assume large men appearing out of hedges in alleyways might be murderous murderers™?

Was walking down a cut through today and a chap just appeared from out a large hedge. I jumped out my skin.

He was somewhat offended that I jumped.

I think jumping when people appear from where they shouldn't is a natural response to the fact that everyone knows murderous murderers* hide behind hedges in alleyways.

He had in fact been retrieving a frisbee that his child had lobbed over their fence.

We parted amicably although he still seemed very wounded by my started jump backwards.

AIBU to take murderous murderer evasion protocol backwards leaping when perfectly nice people loom out of hedges?

*murderous murder ™eatshitderek year 20whateveritwas.

I was leaving the office today when I unexpectedly came face to face with a woman who seemed to appear out of nowhere and was dressed like she had stepped out of Star Trek. I jumped out of my skin and she gave me a look that clearly said she thought I was a weirdo

SueTrinder · 08/06/2016 21:58

I'm terribly jumpy, I'm daydreaming away to myself while cooking and DH (who I know is in the house) will innocently walk into the kitchen and say 'have you seen the screwdriver?' or another similarly innocent phrase and I will jump and scream in fright. So YANBU and scary potential murderous murderer is BVVU indeed. Obviously.

AnnaMarlowe · 08/06/2016 21:58

So serious Vestal

NeedACleverNN · 08/06/2016 21:58

I do that to my dh all the time sue Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 08/06/2016 22:06

I was arsing about in a bush in the garden a while back (reasons lost in the mists of time), clambered out and found a man standing there with a chain-saw on a pole. The fucker must have opened our gate and wandered in from next door where he was cutting the hedge. Why not ring the doorbell, DH was in the house?

I pulled myself up to my full diminutive height and haughtily told him to 'get off my land'. Apparently I turn into Audrey fforbes-Hamilton when startled.

ScrambledSmegs · 08/06/2016 22:08

But yes, murderous murderers normally lurk in hedges. Unless they own the hedge, in which case I'm they're probably just a bit odd.

TSSDNCOP · 08/06/2016 22:14

I always say once a murderous murderer, always a murderous murderer.

It's like piratey pirates, never change their spots.

Trewfact.

kelper · 08/06/2016 22:14

I jump at anything, dog walks are terrifying because we can be trundling along and a squirrel will appear, ddog with jump ten feet in the air with fright and then bark and I'll jump because she barks! Must be very entertaining for passers by.
I think if a man jumped out of a hedge near my ddog she would expire (half whippet and a nervous wreck!)

Allbymyselfagain · 08/06/2016 22:14

Honey you need to name change every time someone says your name it gives the Hun rage until I realise they are talking to you!

Cocolepew · 08/06/2016 22:23

Not having a steel pelvic floor like Honey, I had to get up to pee the other night . It was 4.30 and I got out of bed quietly, opened and then closed tbe door, quietly so my peeing didnt wake DH. Cos Im well thoughtful.
Tiptoed and did a tiny springy leap over the creaky bit of the landing. So considerate.
Opened the bathroom door just as DD was going to from inside tbe bathroom .
We both screamed so loudly we woke the rest of the house up.

puddleduckmummy · 08/06/2016 22:26

This has made my night! I think your response is perfectly justified given the situation, what did he expect emerging from a hedge in such a fashion?

WhatWouldFlopDo · 08/06/2016 22:26

YANBU I nearly karate chopped (Mr Miyagi style) a particularly light footed jogger who appeared at my shoulder one evening. Should be made to wear bells...

Assquatch · 08/06/2016 22:27

Yanbu. Unfortunately after being the victim of sexual assault on a bus in broad daylight I trust no one!

BlackeyedSusan · 08/06/2016 22:29

shit, I scream when my 7 year old appears like a silent apparition behind me. he practises the stealthy moving. I need to make the flat more noisy. anyone got ideas for loud carpet?

HoneyDragon · 08/06/2016 22:29

Derek.......

Even though I categorically know I will only regret asking this, what were you doing in the hedge?

All it shouldn't be that much of an issue, 9/10 times the Honey is preceded with Fuck off Grin

Usually a justified fuck off at that.

We need to know the exact nature of your response to determine the extent of your reasonableness or unreasonableness.
Did you assume karate stance?
Did you grab pepper spray and scream "get back you menacing murderer!!!!!!!"
Did you whack him with your handbag?

I'm guessing you went all Wonderwoman on his arse!

Hassled · 08/06/2016 22:33

Why are so many people in hedges? I have never knowingly been in a hedge - and I've been to Hampton Court maze. Twice. Have still never been in a hedge. There's no call for being in a hedge in modern society.

SaucyJack · 08/06/2016 22:35

No public toilets innit Hassled.

Blame the Tories.

Hassled · 08/06/2016 22:36

:o

ScrambledSmegs · 08/06/2016 22:38

I dunno, Hassled, I ferret about in our hedges quite a lot. Sometimes with purpose, sometimes just because I like it.

We often hide and jump out at each other in our household. DS is cool as a cucumber but dd is hilarious and finds it hilarious. We then have to hide again and jump out even though she knows exactly what's about to happen

Summerdreams · 08/06/2016 22:46

This thread has cheered me right up. Grin

HoneyDragon · 08/06/2016 22:50

Aaaaaah I am in a Tory stronghold, bloody shiny Dave, ruling all our pelvic floors. (Except mine )
