to be upset about a teapot?

It's my day off work. My husband is also off - but has a day out planned.

We'd had breakfast - made by him - and during that time he talked all about his plans for the day, plus stuff he'd listened to on the radio. I was putting away the washing up. I noticed that when clearing away last night's stuff, he'd somehow jammed the infuser of a glass teapot I had bought and which I use for looseleaf tea, so that - rather than sitting on the lip of the pot as it should - it had gone down too far right into the base of the pot. He tends to hurry when putting stuff away, and sometimes minor accidents/breakages happen as a result.

I tried to get the infuser out, but it was an awkward business. While attempting to ease it up, the glass of the post shattered. I carried on tidying up, then became aware there was blood all over my finger. A bit later I realised I also had a large bloodstain on my face and another one on my dressing gown.

I went and found my husband and said yes, it's only a pot, but it was my pot. How had he managed to jam the infuser right in - without even noticing? He said he had noticed and it had 'just happened'. His plan had been to deal with it later. I said why on earth didn't he tell me at breakfast? Particularly as he was going out for the day. If I accidentally managed to mess up some item of his, the first thing I'd do would be to tell him.

I know that there are one or two other things I'm a bit down about. But it feels like there's a pattern. He is well-intentioned but thoughtless and hapless - and I get affected by this.

I know the feeling but we have to try and put things into perspective. These irritants are things that happen while living with another person unfortunately. I haven't got a partner at the minute and haven't for a long time, would find it quite difficult to live with a partner I'd say, I like things the way I like them, basically peoples standards differ. My son is a teen, he does things like this, most of it I let go but other times I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall.

DH has similar tendencies. For instance he will decide to have a sort out, while I am out, and has thrown out stuff I use every day. This has happened more than once. I had to tell him (also more than once) not to throw stuff away without checking with me first.
He hasn't done it since I threatened that, if he did it again, I would dispose of something precious to him. It's sad that I had to resort to threats but at least it brought him up short and made him stop & think.
