Today I was trying to park my car with my 2 young children outside the supermarket but couldn't get a baby space. I then saw a woman get out of her car from a mum and baby space WITH NO CHILD! She just parked, got out all alone and strolled into the supermarket with a smug look on her face . (OK there was no smug look I just made that part up but I just imagined her smugness) Whilst I huffed and puffed across the whole car park with an unruly 4 yr old and baby in buggy!!!!! IT INFURIATES ME !

Not true. BB spaces are a legal requirement, P&C are not.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 08/06/2016 07:57

Why do you need a P&C space with a 4yo?

because they will struggle to climb in the car and into their car seat on their own (at least in some cars). You can strap them from inside the car, but they need to be carried to go in the seat in the first place

What? An able bodied 4 year old that can't get into their own car seat? You're joking right!?

redpriestandmozart · 08/06/2016 07:59

Solution would be for supermarkets to increase parking space sizes the further away from the door they are. So at the back of the car park all the spaces would be big enough for all the humongous car seats/buggies, precious sports cars, arses who can't park straight and everyone who complains parking spaces are too small. Of course the BB spaces should have all the spaces closest to the door, not in competition with P&C spaces!

A P&C thread is a familiar and strangely comforting thing.

The years may pass but the outrage, nonsense and irritation all stays the same.

PPie10 · 08/06/2016 08:01

People who compare disabled with p&c spaces need their heads knocked together.

Op you are lazy and entitled. Teach your 4yo to walk and more importantly get in and out of a car. How do you cope with places that don't offer these spaces?

How do all these people manage to push a 'travel system' and a trolley full of food? Or do you have to shunt one along with the other?

A travel system ought to involve minimally a plane, a dedicated app and a glass of champagne.

I would have thought that under the Equality Act and Disability Discrimination Laws that supermarkets would have to provide equality of access to their stores for disabled people whether their car parks are on private property or not
Equally I thought planning laws insisted on a certain number of disabled spaces per car park according to the number of spaces provided as a percentage. So whether private land or not if you wanted a car park you would have to make fair provision for disabled people.

ExitPursuedByBear · 08/06/2016 08:12

I think of it more like something from Dr Who that involves the space/time continuum.

Pagwatch · 08/06/2016 08:12

Yup.
Not a fucking pushchair.

It's so disappointing.

Also the names. - 'iCandy'? Still a fucking pushchair. Can it take photos, make me a cappuccino? No. It's a massively overpriced pushchair.

Pagwatch · 08/06/2016 08:14

A 'Quinny buzz'. A sex toy.

DS1 mostly had a sling as I had to commute into London with him daily.

RonaldMcDonald · 08/06/2016 08:17

Also in a not very grown up way threads like this make me want to park in parent and child spots
I know this is childish.

My mum is a WC user and is a bb holder.
Everyone of these threads comparing disability to needing a special space for having bred drives me insane.

You lot need to catch a farking grip

I have a problem with road rage and staring down people who park in disabled spaces to use cash machines, etc. I am not going to stay silent when my DS is born and I can't use a family space.

I recently left a pad of paper and pen in my car so I could leave notes for drivers who are particularly skilled at parking. Nothing irritates me more than someone with a very expensive car who decides their car is so good it deserves two spaces in a packed car park. Very tempting to key the side glare at the driver as they get in the car.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/06/2016 08:25

Disabled spaces in a supermarket are a courtesy. It's private land so the priority parking can't be enforced.
Wrong.
