AIBU to want a sunblock that lasts all day!

My son's school says I need to put the sunblock on before he goes into school, so it's got to last hours, he can't put it on himself at school.

I'd already bought this, what I thought would be super one, but it says "...reapply when in the sun and then every 1-2 hours"

The print on the bottles is totally illegible to my eye sight so I am now hunting long lasting suncream!

I found these on line, very expensive, and it doesn't say how long they last!

Any advice, please?

P20 is amazing! I've been using it for years and years now, since the time where you could only buy it in airports! I'm ginger and have typical ginger skin. It used to only be in UVB factor 20, but now it has UVA in it too and in F10 F15 F20 F30 and F50. I've used the F20 in really hot countries including the Caribbean and I've never once burned with it.

It's just annoying that they are not allowed time to do this in the class. It seems a useful thing and would enable teachers to know all kids were sorted, instead of replying on dozey parents like me!

I agree - sadly UK schools seem to be woefully unaware of sun safety. DD is the only person with a sunhat, and did to the orientation of their playground there is no shade.

My DCs school pay lots of lip service to sun safety but then don't allow them to reapply sun cream during the day. My two are out at 7.30 so their sun cream has already been on for 5 hours by lunchtime Angry

RedCrimson · 06/06/2016 22:53

Btw, my DC's school are allowed to take suncream as long as their names are on the bottle and the teachers are allowed to help if a child can't do it for themselves.

Kallyno · 06/06/2016 22:57

I can't believe they don't allow them to reapply sunscreen at school! My kids have been schooled in NZ and Australia and the classrooms usually have a big pump bottle of sunscreen that kids are reminded to apply before heading out to lunch. On camps and activity days outside the staff are always bringing round the sunscreen.

Don't forget ears and lips!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 06/06/2016 23:06

I know, it's ridiculous. My DD is very fair too.

Smeldra · 06/06/2016 23:08

Sunsense is the only sunscreen recommended to me by the dermatologist who treated my melanoma.

I've had various conversations with my children's school about reapplication at lunchtime. Sunsense do a fantastic roll on which makes it quick and easy for an adult/TA/teacher to apply and get the child to rub in. It doesn't spill and you can't squeeze too much out.

I try to keep my children in long sleeves as much as possible, and they have Legionnaire style hats.

I bought P20 in Primark yesterday for just under £10. Haven't tried it yet but it was recommended to me by a friend

sue51 · 06/06/2016 23:36

Ultasun 50.

MintyChapstick · 06/06/2016 23:39

I have vitiligo and can recomend sunsense. It's an Australian brand, and you have to buy it online in the UK but it's fab. I've never once burned with it. Aussies seems to be far more clued up about sun safety that we do over here.

SouperSal · 07/06/2016 00:42

Ultrasun family here. Never bother with spf50. 30 is fine.

TheFirie · 07/06/2016 01:02

Usually the ones in stick vs the one in spray/liquid form last longer, less evaporation.
What about, the office keeps the sunscreen and your son can go there to reapply it? Could this be an acceptable solution for the school?
Maybe send a email stating you understand the safety concerns regarding kids sharing creams and you hope the school will understand the sun safety concern with the same attention.

In Australia, all kids have sunscreens hanging from their bags and the children have the sunhat on even when it rains and some keep it in the classroom as well!

We had a roasting day for our gala on sat. DSIL got burned using Nivea. We used our aldi stuff (£4.49 - I checked today!), and touch wood, none of us have so much as reddened in this heatwave since we got it.

It is honestly fantastic stuff. We're all going nice and golden. And I don't tan!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/06/2016 14:06

I burn easily and use sunsense. And I wear a hat when it's really sunny.
