To worry about my teens walking to school

We live in a village and the dc go to school in the town which adjoins it. It isn't a hugely populated area.

Last week a child the age of mine was snatched on the street adjoining school in broad daylight dragged and sexually assaulted. The child fought and got away. They haven't caught him.

Last year there were three sexual attacks on women on the main road to school.

The year before a teen was horrifically raped (it made a detecting documentary it was so bad :( ) on dds school route.

How the hell do you not worry yourself sick?

Jeez, I don't know in this situation. Do they walk together? Could you set up a walking bus? There's safety in numbers?

Sounds terrifying tbh. Maybe a personal alarm?

That poor girl. There's obviously a nasty criminal on the loose.

Speak to your dc and make sure they know to stick together.

For Dd to walk to school she would have to walk down a secluded lane with no foot path, down an area where similar things have happened. In the winter she would have to walk in the dark.

So I drive her. We are out of area for that school so no other kids are walking that way either.

It's a pain because she starts at 8.15 and ds starts at 9. So it's two school runs.

Yanbu, is there a way you can work round it if there is a serious risk?
