Princess day at dance school. All the girls arrive in their princess costumes except one. She has come as a hot dog. She has her princess costume underneath and says she is a princess inside!

Now how brilliant is that?

This dance class looks like a ballet class ( pink ballet flats).

You could argue that there is already a huge amount of gender prescription going on here already, at a ballet school girls dress in pink, tutus, learn poise and grace.
If this girls parents - or indeed the girl herself feels so strongly about female stereotypes than it's odd to send her to ballet.
Why not karate rather than ballet?

See I'm a bit torn. My dd has ASD (see huge other thread). She would point blank refuse to be a 'princess'.

Last superhero day she dressed up as her name, I will out myself if I give the name
So it was almost like I'm going as 'jane' I'm a superhero, she just wore normal clothes, the year before she went as 'qudditch wolf'. Wearing a quidditch cloak and a wolf mask. And at world book day she went as 'all the cats in books' by wearing cat ear muffs.

I'm not attention seeking by going along with it, I'm avoiding a meltdown.

pearly I'm no fan of ballet but presumably boys can do ballet too? At least that's what I always tell ds when he comes out with the usual 'dancing is for girls' casual sexism. Just as girls can do karate or whatever.

Oh Esmeralda. She sings my favorite Disney song but I've blocked out HOND because I found it so dark and upsetting as a child.
