A pregnant acquaintance posted a pregnant photograph of herself on Facebook earlier and captioned it 'being able to carry another human inside you is a blessing, never take being pregnant for granted because some women can't do the things our body can!' With one of those strong arm muscle emojisHmm Am I being over sensitive or is she being a smug dick insinuating that infertility means your body is 'broken' and that her body is superior as it can carry a child? I don't know why this got to me so much as I have never suffered infertility it just seems like a really nobbish thing to post.

Shit, Liara, that's awful!

Did you ever point out to her that that wasn't really appropriate? Just to spare anyone else? Seriously, WTF? What are people thinking?
I really, really hope she realized afterwards and died of shame.

Fluffyseagull · 02/06/2016 20:53

Cringey to the extreme. Some people have no idea. Currently going through fertility treatment and no one knows all I ever get is 'are you trying?' ' are you pregnant?'. The fact that some people would be happy that I'm going through hell spurs me on to keep this a secret

ScarlettSahara · 02/06/2016 20:56

Yes I would have found it insensitive but probably as Liara said she is getting carried away.

So sorry you had that experience Liara.
I had similar experience. Lost first baby at 20 weeks pregnancy. A matter of weeks later friend still sent a Christmas pic of her baby & SIL sent pic of her 2 - they both knew the score. It did feel like a blow to the stomach but I think they were just carried away & thoughtlessSad.

Some fb posts are a bit Confused and Hmm! Grin

Hope she gives birth to a hedgehog

What an ignorant bitch. Women who suffer the pain of infertility are strong and resilient women. A lot of women are mothers to babies that are in heaven aswell. They are still mothers. It's just things didn't work out. They are just as much a woman as a woman that has carried a child to term Flowers

AnyFucker · 02/06/2016 21:01

I would have had to say something.

soundslikethat · 02/06/2016 21:03

What a dick. She's been lucky, others haven't.

228agreenend · 02/06/2016 21:08

I think it was well meaning, with a 'count your blessings' meaning. I don't think there was any intention to imply that if you are unable to have a child, then your body is broken, although I can see how,it could read that way.

If she is usually a kind person, then I would give her the benefit over doubt,.

Ilovewillow · 02/06/2016 21:25

Probably well meant but unnecessary and badly worded. Having ttc for 8yrs with DD and another 5 for DS with IVF for both this seems insensitive but I would take it with a pinch of salt.

limon · 02/06/2016 21:25

yabu. as a woman who suffered 3 miscarriages (aspirin in 4th pregnancy and now have dd4) I would have taken this as acknowledging what a blessing it is and wouldn't be offended

clarrrp · 02/06/2016 21:26

the comment itself didn't bother me - it didn't really sound offensive - a little smug in the way that a lot of FB posts particularly about pregnancy etc can be - but the strong arm em was weird. Not sure how that makes me feel to be honest, but I don't like it.

TealLove · 02/06/2016 21:29

She didn't mean it personally.

FuzzyOwl · 02/06/2016 21:33

I am not infertile but having a number of friends and family who have struggled, suffered multiple miscarriages or stillbirths, or been unable to have children, I am strongly against using FB for any kind of pregnancy announcement. Then again, I am fairly anti social media a lot of the time even though I do have accounts on the main ones.

I would have said something to her. I wouldn't have been able to help myself.

SolomanDaisy · 02/06/2016 21:40

Ugh. The smugness will bite her in the arse when she doesn't get the birth she wants or she can't breastfeed or her body somehow doesn't do what some other people's can. Then she might look back and cringe.
