To think that something does not seem right with the parents' story of the boy missing in Japan

The story as theyve told is horrendous, but they've already lied once. Did they really just go for 5 minutes? How come he didn't run after them?

It reminds me of the woman in the States in the 90's who claimed she'd been car jacked and the man had taken off in her car with her two sons in the back, and they eventually found the car in a lake and the son's dead. But the more the police and journalist questioned her the more her story fell apart and eventually it turned out to be her that did it.

Yy fit. We all know what the statistics say about missing children. :(

He's been found! Alive and in 'relatively good condition' in a town (didn't get its name) according to BBC news channel. Thank goodness. Now we can find out his side of the story.

Japanese rescuers say they have found a boy they believe to be the one who went missing in woods in northern Hokkaido after being left by his parents
The seven-year-old boy, missing since last Saturday, was found in Shikabe town and was in relatively good health, said Japanese media.
His parents said they briefly left him alone in the woods after he misbehaved, but when they returned he had gone.
Search teams, including the military, have been combing the remote area.

Wow! What a clever boy to find shelter there though. What a relief for all concerned. I just hope he won't be too traumatised.

TheNewStatesman is right. I am so glad he is ok. There are bears, very dangerous wild boar, monkeys and snakes in a Japanese forest. This was not a normal situation at all.

What are the social services like in Japan? Will the boy be taken away from his parents? Will they be punished?

Report
ONatural · 03/06/2016 03:07

Will the parents have to cover the cost of the rescue?

I was sure he would be - it seemed so batshit that the first thing I thought of was that case in America where the parents claimed their child was missing after climbing into a weather balloon and floating off....

Funnily enough it was the first thought of several of my friends too so clearly something wasn't quite right with this from the beginning....

That's amazing! I'm so so glad he's OK.

A child can easily get far enough away in 5 mins that they can't be found. If you are looking in wrong place for these 5 minutes, for example. , while they go further away. Happened to us.

Glad he was found. Hope people feel ashamed to have thought his parents must have killed him.

They should be prosecuted for that

I left my 7 year old by the side of the road a few years ago. She had refused to get into the car so I drove around the block, was gone for about a minute and when I returned she had gone! An elderly couple has been watching from their window and took her in. I look back now and think of all the things that coukd have happened to her, crazy decision made in the heat of the moment.

DD stills mentions it now and then.

They should be prosecuted for abandoning him. And no I don't feel ashamed. I still think there's more to this story. It just doesn't sit right with me. But the most important thing is he's alive and well.

Thank goodness he is ok! The parents are the only people that should be ashamed, not posters on here Hmm Their behaviour was disgusting and they are extremely lucky that their behaviour did NOT kill him.

I hope that it is dealt with accordingly.

So glad he is safe. What a relief, and amazing luck.

I'm glad the boy's ok. More than ok really under the circumstances. It's a very peculiar chain of events though and the parents' explanation makes little sense. With so many people searching why didn't it occur to them to check any places of safety first to rule them out? It reads that he was located purely by chance.

Some of the comments on here (and elsewhere) are a classic example of why it's wrong to say that you should always trust your instincts. The instinct of a number of people was that this boy must have been killed by this parents.

I'm sure they thought like people here that he wouldn't be able to get far enough away in 5 mins to not be easily found, and were also sadly wrong.

If the parents were really only gone for 5 minutes, then I'd suggest the boy hid from them, and didn't answer when they called for him...

He was only 7 KM from his drop off point when he was found and had been there since the day he went missing.

Sure, the parents shouldn't have left him, but I think the actions of the boy has a lot to do with it.
