AIBU to object to this brand name - particularly given the nature of the product?

Hi all,

I have name-changed for this as I am corresponding with companies and don't want them to identify me but I'm regular reader and occasional poster.

I think this brand has been around for a while, but I have just noticed it for the first time and it made me do a double take.

It is a shaving brand for men making, amongst other things, open blade/ cut throat razors... called (very questionably IMHO) 'Bluebeard's Revenge' Shock Yes, he of the serial wife murdering fairytale fame (the character isn't a priate even though they may think he is/ try to pass him off as such - their labels carry a skull and crossbones - Blackbeard was a pirate).

I mean, what?! Razors named after not just a serial wife murderer, but after his revenge? I just don't like it at all and my husband doesn't either.

The story gave me chills as a child reading it in Grimm's fairytales and I just don't know what I would think if I saw a razor with that name on it in someone's bathroom - it is a strange character to identify with I think and more than a little questionable if you think about it for more than a second.

Knowing that domestic abuse is still sadly an issue for so many men and women, with often very violent and sad outcomes, I just can't find this brand name funny or acceptable.

So, AIBU in hating this name and wanting this brand to change it to something less offensive?

noeuf that is dark but I'd buy it!

MackerelOfFact · 30/05/2016 22:58

I wondered why my Henry Hoover had been looking at me a bit shiftily.

He's planning to behead me isn't he? Shock

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 30/05/2016 22:59

Well, I'd never even heard of them until you mentioned them. Nice bit of unintended promotion.

SouthWesterlyWinds · 30/05/2016 23:00

thisisafakename - I was referring to the 1944 film noir version. It's rather good actually. No bum fluff in sight - just real men beards as per the marketing 😂

But I guess, if a lot of you on AIBU think it's all fine, then society is in safe hands - clearly there is nothing whatsoever to worry about...

Then why post on AIBU then OP?
You sound like a petulant child now.

3BusyBabies · 30/05/2016 23:02

FFS!!!

MitzyLeFrouf · 30/05/2016 23:02

Yep we've got society covered, you (and your DH) can take care of over the top outrage.

chewingawasp · 30/05/2016 23:03

Nope. Can't give the suds off a soapy tit wank about this. I also don't believe the OP. NOBODY is that fucking ill informed and clenched to make a public twat of themselves like this over fuck all.

AnotherPrickInTheWall · 30/05/2016 23:04

I love the name. I like quirky brand names that aren't right on or poncey.

RainbowCake · 30/05/2016 23:05

That's fair enough badtastename even the Google link says just Bluebeard but looking deeper does show the full brand name.
I remember the story and I'm sure in my version he put their heads on spikesShock.

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls · 30/05/2016 23:06

You got owned, OP. 😂

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 30/05/2016 23:06

It seems I get bluebeard all over my legs.

WorraLiberty · 30/05/2016 23:07

I'm sure you'll find something

3BusyBabies · 30/05/2016 23:07

I thought you were going to say Femfresh or something. Are you seriously taking this further???? Clearly too much time on your hands.
mackerel Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/05/2016 23:10

This is hilarious.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 30/05/2016 23:10

Mackerel. I've put mine in the garage now, just to be on the safe side! 😳

(Actually, I haven't, I love him very much. Champion debris gobbler that he is!!)

SpeakNoWords · 30/05/2016 23:11

Do you think that the company knew about the fairytale and actively chose to associate their products with a fairytale killer? Or that they accidentally did it, because they confused the name with the pirate Blackbeard?

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 30/05/2016 23:12

Come on OP - tell us what name you usually post under. I like to keep posters in their correct box.

CoolforKittyCats · 30/05/2016 23:13

Maybe you have to have known violence from a man (or woman) or known it happen to people close to you, to realise the significance or give a shit - or just have open eyes and some empathy.

Yes I have known violence thank you.

It doesn't bother me.

NeedACleverNN · 30/05/2016 23:15

It's the professionally offended people isn't it?

Not happy unles they can find something to take offence to

badtastename · 30/05/2016 23:15

Petulant? No. Do I accept everything I am told or meekly bow to the majority? No. Clearly there are all sorts of opinions on AIBU and I've read threads about rape jokes where some people think they are no problem, but I know not all agree.

I worry about the blatant and residual misogyny in society as do many others, and amongst other things I can't help thinking back to a time when I saw a man shouting awful, obscene things dragging a woman by her throat through a marketplace, past many people (a Sat afternoon) before gettting near to me so I could see what was happening and only me and two other women behind me did anything. Most people just turned away and ignored it when they had better view then I did as a I came out of a shop when I heard the ranting. We approached him to try to make him let her go and followed them calling the police until they caught up with him.

So, yes I'm fully aware that whilst many people do care, there are many people who don't care to enough to be bothered, lift a finger or see any significance in things. Others do.

But thank you for your opinions everyone.

EatShitDerek

Your post earlier...

I've known violence very well. I had a knife to my throat only last fucking year . It's a fucking name of a shaving product company for men. Un-fucking clench!

I know I shouldn't laugh but, fuck me, if there was ever a case if 'know your audience' this was it.
