Am I being unreasonable to be looking forward to Disneyland, Paris?

Lots of people seem to say (on Mumsnet) it's not great! But we have booked to go and are excited.

Plus what to do while there, I mean what especially is good.

And what to avoid! Grin

Thanks!

It ll be great! Get the fast passes each day. Rides are quietest at the end or beginning of the day.

RedHelenB · 29/05/2016 10:12

Oh and take snacks with you. My kids were always too excited to want to sit down and eat properly when they were little.

MrsJayy · 29/05/2016 10:15

You honestly dont want to listen to grumpy mumsnetters who hate disney anyway go have a great time of course yanbu to being excited about your holiday

We went last year and it was awesome!

Helgathehairy · 29/05/2016 10:42

I was there (without kids!!) about 5 years ago and it was great!! I'd recommend www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=156 this website for helping to plan.
One thing I would say is that the food in the parks isn't great.

We're going to DisneyWorld next year (with kids) and I can't bloody wait!

CakeThat · 29/05/2016 10:42

If you go with a positive attitude you'll love it. Lots of adults decide beforehand that they hate Disney and theme parks and then they inevitably say they it was hell when they get home.
You'll LOVE it!! GrinGrin yanbu

PrincessHairyMclary · 29/05/2016 10:54

I loved it even more than DD and my 55 year old mum turned back into a 5 year old when Baloo came and hugged her in the Parade.

If you can get the premium half board meals, stock up at breakfast with cheese and rolls to munch whilst waiting for rides and then enjoy your evening meals with the characters. No way would I queue for several hours just to see a Princess or mickey when you get loads of interaction at the meals.

If you have a DD Princess for a day is lovely, we took our own dress and she had her hair and make up and photo shoot just before dinner with the princesses. You can book this in the big Disney hotel.

Buffalo Bill or whatever it's called is really good and worth the visit.

Birdsgottafly · 29/05/2016 10:56

Wear a maxi dress and buy Tinkerbell pjs for yourself, that'll cause a few MNers to combust.

I couldn't have afforded DL when mine where little, so I'm looking forward to hopefully taking my GD to DLP in a few years.

She's going with my DD and her DP, to DL, first.

I'm excited, even though it is a few years away.

MrsJayy · 29/05/2016 11:00

I wanna be princess for the day Grin

Tulipblank · 29/05/2016 11:01

We're on our way there now! About an hour to go. As a previous anti Disney type, I'm actually a bit of a convert.

We always pay for the half board plus. Means you can avoid the crap fast food joints and have decent meals. The light show at park closing time is also worth staying up for.

Cinemagique is also a firm favourite, and the car stunt show is pretty spectacular.

Get organised, plan ahead, use the fast passes and you'll have a great time!!

mayoketchupchocolate · 29/05/2016 11:01

YANBU- We just got back and it was great! DS (3yo) had a lovely time, and so did we. I don't know why people don't keep their negative opinions to themselves, if they don't want to go then they don't have to go!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/05/2016 11:05

It's amazing! You'll have a fab time... I've loved it there as a teenager / grown up / mother / hen... It's brilliant Grin

FeckinCrutches · 29/05/2016 11:06

I cried when I took my girls Blush it was all just a bit overwhelming, the fake snow on Main Street, the parade, the light show. Lunch at Auberge de Cendrillon with the princesses was amazing, well worth the money, as was the buffet at Disney hotel, we never queued up to meet any characters after that.

TheWitTank · 29/05/2016 11:09

No, not at all! We had a great time. The only thing we found off putting was the amount of smoking going on everywhere around the park including in lines for rides (there are signs saying no smoking but it's not policed) and the general rudeness/pushing/line jumping. We enjoyed the rides and hotel.

CremeBrulee · 29/05/2016 11:11

Haven't been for a long time but when DC were the right ages we went several times. It is what you make it. Approach it with positivity and embrace the magic!

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/05/2016 11:13

I love it. Glad the dc are a bit bigger now as going in feb and it will be better now they can walk further without tiring.

Thinnestofthinice · 29/05/2016 11:58

Love it! Doing an extra job this month so I can treat my daughter to it in August again :) So I obviously think it is worth it :)

Allice · 29/05/2016 12:23

It is what it is! We were there on our third visit at Easter. Was great but busy, by the end of day 4 I was sick to death of the place but we had a great time.
Always makes me very emotional, my 11 year old met lots of characters and she loved it, they were so kind and I patient.
If you're in a Disney hotel make the most of magic hours!

LotsOfShoes · 29/05/2016 12:23

Go as early as possible (don't sleep in, get up early), pack some snacks and know exactly which rides you want. The place is huuuge and when I went we wasted a lot of time walking around and figuring out what to do. Have fun!

Savagebeauty · 29/05/2016 12:26

I would hate it Grin
But my DD who is nearly 20 loves it..went for the first time at 18 and is little mermaid mad.
Enjoy!!!!

Floralnomad · 29/05/2016 12:28

YANBU , we've been going since it opened and love it , there are lots of closures at the moment though as they're refurbishing for the 25th anniversary . Where are you staying ?

AlwaysDancing1234 · 29/05/2016 12:28

Plan well, go with a positive attitude and bloody enjoy yourself OP!

EverySongbirdSays · 29/05/2016 12:31

Not trying to piss on your chips but hands DOWN worst holiday of my life and that includes getting D and V at an all inclusive in Spain Grin reasons for it being worst complex and more related to scenario at time but I had never been Disney anything before and was super looking forward to it. Thought it was crap but specifically very long queues for not that magical 90 second rides and shops flogging identical merch as the last shop every 3 feet or so. I would still do Florida Disney on basis that I think rides/attractions are better but I'd go to Alton Towers 100 times over even post Smiler before I'd consider going back to DLP.

Are you unreasonable? No I was SO excited but be worried about building your own expectations.
