To think you don't just help yourself to other people's food?!

Had a new lady in the office start yesterday, to make her feel welcome the lady who sits next to me offered her a biscuit (she keeps a couple of snacky things in her drawer) today the lady who sits next to me isn't in.
The new lady keeps coming to raid the drawer, I made a jokey comment about it her responce was "oh I'm sure she won't mind, if she does I'll ofer to buy a pack of biscuits"

Aibu to think this is fucking rude?!

Wow. Next time she comes in can you do an Alan Partridge and fly across the desk to stop her opening it?

I'd be pissed of at the cheek of her. Not just for taking the biscuits, but for going into my private drawer. It's all the more shocking, because she's new. I dread to think what she's going to be like once she's there a while. Why don't you take the biscuits out and put them in your drawer. You can tell your friend why, later.

That's basically stealing. It would be different if there was a 'communal' biscuit tin in the middle of the office but not if someone has their own stash in their drawer.

Actually was a bit of a long shot .. we had to hide everything from her in the end. Got ridiculous. Just didn't take on board any comments about it either.

I remember a manager at my old work who used to get his secretary to buy packets of chocolate biscuits on expenses which he would then lock in his drawer.
When she took him his morning coffee he would unlock the drawer and take out 2 biscuits and lock the drawer again. He never ever offered them round even though his office had a glass partition and everyone could see his biscuit eating. We used to think he was mean but maybe he'd fallen foul of a biscuit thief in a previous job?

His secretary used to shag random staff members in his chair as revenge.

Come to think of it, that was a pretty messed up place.

We have a communal pile but it's bare at the moment as everyone is on a diet. In still shocked at the cheek of it!

My work had communal biscuits/snacks/chocolate/fruit...well that's a lie there was never any fruit which was great though one colleague did use to rather take the piss and ate loads of it.

We ended up always making sure we overbought just for her. Mind you the day she ate 5 chocolate doughnuts in one sitting was really quite memorable! I am still envious.

When I was a student on placement, the company owners would help themselves to whatever was in the fridge which was sometimes my lunch! I was told not to question it by my supervisor and she justified that as the company owners they were actually doing me a favour by letting me be on placement there! There was nowhere nearby to buy any lunch!

I resorted to keeping everything in hand bag with cool block to ensure that I could eat!

I used to buy the 'communal' biscuits for work so automatically went into one of my desk drawers. Everyone in my office knew where they were and welcome to help themselves whenever. We only hid them because another lady would nick food and hoard it in her bag or drawer. We found a load of chocolate and crisps that had gone missing from the kitchen in a box under her desk once. She even nicked a big tub of sweets over Christmas! She says it's because she can't afford them but I counter argued I can't afford to keep buying biscuits for the office that were meant to last a few weeks and they only last a day as she keeps nicking full packets from us. So glad I'm on maternity and I can eat my biscuits in peace.

So yeah anyway it is bloody rude! Tell her to bore off and buy her own.

She offered her one out of kindness to a new start.
She has been told again that they belong to someone else yet she is still doing it and 'keeps coming to raid the drawer' so its not just once either.
Thats just barefaced cheek, if she wants biscuits she can buy her own! What else is she stealing that the other lady keeps for snacks for herself?

You shouldnt be poking around in a colleagues workspace drawers anyway never mind stealing their food. If thats what she does after 5 minutes of working there what else will she presume is 'ok' after the first month?

I simply cannot imagine how anyone could tell themselves that this is ok. She's going to be a nightmare!

Wow! Surely it's an unspoken rule you don't rummage in a colleagues drawers (excuse the pun)

Maybe biscuit owning woman told her to help herself when she wasn't in?

I just think it's a bit early to write a new colleague off over inappropriate biscuit etiquette.

Someone in my work is helping themselves to other people's food. Theyve even gone as far as to go into one woman's handbag to steal rice cakes out of it.

Going into someone else's cubicle, drawer or bag is theft. Its gone waaay past cheek.
