So I am fairly certain DC has chicken pox. She has the rash and it has beenvgoing round nursery. Dh wants me to take her to doctor's. I think it is necessary.
So my jury who is right please.

Just for completeness - if you do need to take a child to the GP with a dodgy rash then let the receptionists know so they can put you straight into an unused consulting room to wait away from other people.

When DD1 had CO she developed wierd bruises on her ears. 111 booked for us to go to the walk in center. I asked to wait away from everyone else as we knew she was contagious, they didn't care I went to a corner of the waiting room (only a few chairs) and warned off anyone who came near

Sleepyjean70 · 27/05/2016 07:56

Dd is OK. It is dh who is on meds.

Your DH is definitely wrong.

However, if he is on immunosuppressant medication, then he needs to speak with the GP. He may need VZIG treatment, as he is unlikely to be producing antibodies, and it needs to be given before he contracts chickenpox.

Our GPS advertise side rooms for this purpose.

Not just unnecessary - dangerous! (To others)

Pseudo341 · 27/05/2016 08:03

You only need to go if there's complications. I had to take my DD when some of her spots got infected, but we had to wait in an empty corridor not the waiting room.

SouperSal · 27/05/2016 08:06

My DD has just had chicken pox. I did take her to the GP (after phoning the pharmacist and posting a pic on here) on day 4 of the rash because it looked so angry. We were put straight in a side room away from other patients and the GP prescribed a second anti-histamine as the reaction was so strong. Had it been "normal" chicken pox I wouldn't have taken her.

Things that we found helped: oat baths (whizz them in a food processor first if you can, then into a muslin or sock and tied before into a cool-ish bath); bicarb baths; POXCLIN - amazing; virasoothe -okay, not amazing; aqueous cream with calamine; piriton (over the counter); calpol (over the counter); lots of rest; lots of drinks; no clothes.

ohtheholidays · 27/05/2016 08:15

No don't take her to the Doctors.

I'm on immunosuppressants OP,I have been for 16 years and we've had chiken pox in our house 3 times(between our 5DC)and I was fine.I had chicken pox as a child did your DH?

cdtaylornats · 27/05/2016 08:16

Don't give them Aspirin. It has a higher risk than the ibuprofen family. Paracetamol is the recommended painkiller

I never bothered. You can get what you need from the chemist!

LunaLoveg00d · 27/05/2016 08:17

You don't need to see the doctor with chicken pox unless :

a) you are unsure of the diagnosis
b) your child has underlying medical conditions which could complicate matters
c) they become very ill with it - more ill than the norm.

Footle · 27/05/2016 08:22

Nobody gives aspirin to children !

katienana · 27/05/2016 08:26

When my ds had it I phoned the gp and request a prescription for piraton this really helped with the itching.

PirateFairy45 · 27/05/2016 08:27

Don't need doctors to diagnose chickenpox

jingscrivvens · 27/05/2016 09:06

No need if just looking to get it diagnosed- we took DS to out of hours service when he had chicken pox, but only because we thought it had spread into his eye. Had phoned NHS 24 first so they were the ones that told us to go and we got to sit in a separate room until the Dr could see us. Eye was fine, just really red and itchy.
