Backstory. She began to suffer with anxiety and depression, aswell as thyroid related issues about 15/16 years ago. To the point she wouldn't even leave the house.

Today, she has gone to visit my cousin. 23 miles away. On her own.

Her journey has involved catching a train, then a bus. And whilst she is nervous, she has done it. On her own. I am SO proud GrinGrin

BiddyPop · 25/05/2016 14:28

Well done your Mum!!

Mrskeats · 25/05/2016 14:30

Yay
Good for her

cjt110 · 25/05/2016 14:30

She even went without my Dad Billy and other than around town, where she is familiar, he goes everywhere with her. So proud. Have texted her every say 5 mins to check she's ok (I'm at work).

I want to get her something to say well done I'm proud but that's a bit soppy isnt it?

Well done cjt Mum :)
Don't think it's soppy at all to get her a little something to acknowledge that she did so well.
It's hard to be scared witless yet still do something. A little gift is something she can look at and remember her achievement and hopefully it will give her the encouragement to carry on going.

cjt110 · 25/05/2016 14:43

Hmmmm... What to get.

what about something she can keep in her bag when she goes out - to remind her you are behind her willing her on? Something a bit motivational . Would anything like this be any good? They will put what you want on them?

As someone who also suffers with anxiety I say, Well done to your mum!
And to you for supporting her.

My family have been brilliant. My partner put me forward for something I never thought I would be able to do again and I bit the bullet and am enjoying it tremendously?

I am also eternally grateful to excellent GPs at my surgery and their willingness to listen to me. Thank the heavens above for the NHS, I am determined to fight to keep it out of the hands of pirates and privateers!

BillBrysonsBeard · 25/05/2016 17:42

Well done your mum! That's actually amazing as many people with anxiety think "this is my life" now in terms of never going out again. My mum stopped going out 12 years ago and she would never do a journey like that (but doesn't want to be able to anyway)

RuggerHug · 25/05/2016 17:43

Ah that's deadly. Fair play to herSmile

Welshmaenad · 25/05/2016 17:45

You sound like a fabulous, supportive daughter Star

Huge well done to your mum and also to you, because no doubt the non judgemental support and love that shines out of your posts will have been instrumental in her feeling able to do this monumental thing.

Oooooh, wibble, what a lush post, it's made my day.
