to have chugged down a whole bottle of wine last night?

Feeling slightly bleary. I supped up a whole single bottle of wine last night and it was fine. Didn't feel too drunk and don't feel too hungover. But is a whole bottle too much? (FYI I'm 5'8ish and average build - dunno if that's relevant)

As a one off, I can't get worked up about it but it's not a good habit to get into.

Lots of people on MN seem ridiculously blasé about downing bottles of wine on a weekly basis, though Confused

It is too much. Look at how it happened and don't replicate that situation so that it happens again.

I live with a heavy drinker and so have stronger feelings about this maybe than most.

Don't let this be the beginning of a slow pushing of boundaries that have you drinking more, and more often - because it easily becomes a habit.

YANBU, but that's because it sounds as though you don't do it every night. Every night would be too much.

Gowgirl · 25/05/2016 08:18

Yabvvvvu, I would have killed for a drink last night but I'm skint till Friday Grin

imwithspud · 25/05/2016 08:21

If it's only an occasional thing then it's fine. If it's a more regular/daily thing then it's not fine.

Wdigin2this · 25/05/2016 08:28

If it's a weekend treat...why not! I don't smoke, eat very well, exercise daily and never drink on week nights! If I want to drink a whole bottle of wine on a weekend night, I do....regularly!

LobsterQuadrille · 25/05/2016 08:29

On a totally different note, do you have to drive today? If this was a one-off then you will probably be over the limit.

I'd keep an eye on your drinking .... it depends why you felt the need to drink a bottle, really. Drinking alone at home through stress is how a habit/addiction can start. Then again, every now and then isn't going to kill you. If there are underlying issues then work on them rather than relying on alcohol.

And I speak as an AA regular.

bakeoffcake · 25/05/2016 08:33

Of course it's too much on one sitting.

But if it's a one off, don't worry about it.
If its regular thing stop doing it, if you can't stop go and get help.

I think it shows a certain level of tolerance - at Uni 1 bottle was a standard night in, 2 for a bender.

12 years later and for me I get to the room spinning and throwing up stage after 1 bottle of wine, 1/2 would get me drunk, 1 large glass is my 'nicely relaxed'.

HooseRice · 25/05/2016 08:42

I feel fine the next day, usually, after one bottle, providing I've also eaten well.

Two bottles I'm ill the next day, and will either throw up or spend the whole day wanting to.

Three bottles (it has been known) and I'm fine.

It seems I can enjoy the odd bottle of wine.

LizzieMacQueen · 25/05/2016 08:57

Your post is written at 5am. If that is normal for you that's fine but it might suggest that you have overdone it on the wine.

mrsmugoo · 25/05/2016 09:02

I'm woozy and headachey on 2 glasses so a whole bottle would floor me!

PirateFairy45 · 25/05/2016 12:45

I drank a full bottle of port the other night as well as other things. Woke up feeling fresh as a daisy!

OTheHugeManatee · 25/05/2016 12:47

If you nail a whole bottle every night that's going to affect your health but now and then
