Recently seen links to mumsnet posts as the basis of stories in the daily fail, guardian and now Wales online:

AIBU to expect journalists to, you know, do some journalism rather than trawling mumsnet??

OP posts:

with MN having ≈7,000 unique visitors per month, I don't see what your point is OP.

wasonthelist · 23/05/2016 14:15

If everyone who reads MN stopped buying the Daily Heil, it would stop.

wink1970 · 23/05/2016 14:23

I work in online data / data protection/ copyright areas and can tell you that these newspapers would only re-use content with MN's permission - and if not they have broken copyright and MN should do something about it.

just because it's an "open forum" doesn't mean a 3rd party can reproduce or copy content willy-nilly. Open just means it can be read by members and non-members.

so protest to MN if you're that bothered.

YABU

Public board so fair game.

That's rubbish. It's acceptable to quote from copyrighted sources in a very minimal way. Strictly speaking it may be unlawful, but would be regarded as "de minimis" - too trivial to bother a court with.

I am perfectly entitled, for example, to quote a line or two from a recently published work...I just couldn't republish large chunks of text.

The DM hasn't broken any laws. It's quoted a few lines and the summarised the contents in the body of the article.

MN can't do anything about that.

If this is your field, you have some reading to do.

squoosh · 23/05/2016 15:47

To be fair I doubt MN want to do anything about it either. They want the publicity, they want threads to go viral.

RortyCrankle · 23/05/2016 16:01

Add Shit or Fuck to your name because the DM won't print it Grin

That bride/cheque thread just had the swear words pixelated.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 23/05/2016 16:04

Oh for fucks sake! Not another one of these fucking threads!

Pagwatch · 23/05/2016 16:10

I want the Daily Mail to do an article about a mumsnet thread complaining about the number of mumsnet threads appearing in the Mail.
Then they can all disappear up their own arses.

I blame every single twat who found penis gate funny.

wasonthelist · 23/05/2016 16:56

I blame any twat that buys the relevant papers
