WWYD if you booked a hotel in a strange country and later discovered that there had been a fatal shooting there three months ago? There's also some pretty shocking reviews on TA, but then again I have stayed in some hotels with bad reviews and liked them.

People get killed in England too you know. More, in fact. Hmm

It's a shit hotel, but the shooting is a one off.

JiffyLemon · 21/05/2016 21:02

Yeah sorry, I meant 'strange' as in unfamiliar

The hotel DH and I stayed at in New York had had a pretty grisly murder a few months before we booked. We got a great rate because of it. It didn't bother is. nypost.com/2011/01/08/portugese-journalist-found-murdered-and-mutilated-at-intercontinental-in-times-square/

But in your situation I'd change hotels!

TopazRocks · 21/05/2016 21:15

Och, i'm sure the hotel will have had the painters in/changed the carpet by this time. He didn't die in the bedroom either.

DailyMailFodder · 21/05/2016 21:17

I'd cancel as the reviews and photos look grim and it's expensive for what it is.

We stayed at The Ashling Hotel and thought it was excellent. The reviews are a million times better.

The Regency is currently being used as homeless accommodation by Dublin City Council, now, the residents are segregated from the main hotel but there have been concerns about how the staff are treating said residents so on principle I wouldn't stay there.

Skylon is literally two minutes down the road from the Regency. Look into any of the Maldrons, or Jury's Inn on Parnell St.

FrameyMcFrame · 21/05/2016 21:29

Moral of the story... always read the TripAdvisor BEFORE booking.

ptumbi · 21/05/2016 21:33

TA - I like the way the 'drunks' go 'wondering the corridors'!! Grin

Yep, I'd cancel.

JiffyLemon · 21/05/2016 21:49

Thanks for everyones suggestions. I'm going to cancel and go with Skylon, especially since they have a kids club. We only went with the Regency because it was close to where we need to be and the pool looked awesome though TA says it's basically a local leisure centre lol

Have a lovely time in Dublin anyway, it's a fabulous city. Wink

comfortblankie · 22/05/2016 09:22

Usually I'd say you're fine, but I know that particular hotel and since new year they've been accommodating emergency homeless families on behalf of the council, but in appalling conditions.... H&S issues everywhere, issues with fire escapes etc so I'd say cancel.

Sorry Flowers

AugustaFinkNottle · 22/05/2016 09:28

The shooting wouldn't make me cancel this booking, but the comments about noise definitely would.
