to use a persona as contraception?

For health reasons I want to avoid all hormones, and the coil. I really don't want a third baby... And we are fed up of condoms. Can anyone talk to me about using a Persona as contraception, the website says it is 94% fool proof. But it still seems a bit risky to me... Thoughts please Star

Ninety-four per cent is better than using no contraception at all if you want to avoid conception. That's all people who have mentioned using methods with higher failure rates have said.

NicknameUsed is right in wondering why women who have no medical reason for avoiding hormonal contraception do so. So do I. For the avoidance of doubt, I'd include things such as weight gain or low libido and suchlike as medical reasons. Not as important as DVT but worth considering.

For those women, and I assume the OP is one of them, I'd recommend a chat with a doctor to discuss methods such as the copper coil, the diaphragm and condoms over Persona which I think is like the rhythm method with a Science Bit.

But if you just think synthetic hormones are somehow wrong for an unspecified reason, then I'd respect your decision but disagree with it.

Diaphragm and condoms.

No I don't think synthetic hormones are wrong at all. Just not right for me anymore.I spent age 17-27 on the pill. And I got pregnant 3 weeks after coming off it for the first time in my sexual life. However, since my children I have been (very successfully) treated for depression and anxiety. I am loathe to tinker with my delicate (if very happy) current equilibrium.

That said, a third child would completely bugger my equilibrium Confused so perhaps I am mistaken.

And not to drip feed - I have had a history of vulvodynia and recurrent thrush, which ideally means I would keep away from the coil/hormones

I recommend Taking charge of your fertility. I have been using this method for nearly ten years now. you will need a minimum of discipline but not more than remembering to take the pill once a day! And seeing as you know exactly where you are in your cycle, a further pregnancy is easy to avoid.
