Right, I don't often post but I'm getting increasingly pissed of that posts on here are being publish in the Daily Mail. I was under the (obviously wrong) impression that we all shared a modicum of discretion.

Tbh most of it is light hearted waffle but surely the constant "mums net" headlines have the potential to stop a mum in real need posting, in fear of seeing their post published around the country.

On the other hand, I would smack Mr Altalea quite hard around the legs if he started with that sort of under carriage washing shenanigan when there could possibly be a freely available damp flannel available in the bathroom.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 20/05/2016 22:57

What planet are you on Atalea? Or maybe you read a different thread? Confused

Altalea · 20/05/2016 23:15

Crumbs, I didn't expect the aggressive response. Its no surprise that the Daily Mail would use public forums to add word count to their columns. No I didn't read a different thread. No I do not think that it is unreasonable for someone to be offended by the DMs abuse. Yes I think that its naive to be surprised. Mocking the establishment is one of the things that we are generally best at and is possibly one of the saving graces of our democracy. I am bewildered by the rudeness I have experienced here. Why was that necessary?

Housewife2010 · 20/05/2016 23:52

So many people on MN look down on the DM but they still read their website. Whether you read their website or the physical paper, if you are reading what they are publishing in whatever format, you are a DM reader.

DonkeyOaty · 21/05/2016 00:01

PB was not funny

DonkeyOaty · 21/05/2016 00:04

Arf said t'other day something along lines of " if you would say it to yer Granny then yep go ahead and post. If you wouldn't want Granny's eyes boggling at you then back space like mad"

WorraLiberty · 21/05/2016 00:12

It's not 'lazy' journalism, it's modern journalism...you know since they're able to swap their clipboards for the internet nowadays, instead of pounding the streets and shopping centres to find out what people are discussing.

I keep asking this question but I never really get an answer, so I'll try one more time...

Why are so many Daily Mail readers, starting threads complaining about the paper they choose to read and therefore fund?

I've yet to see the same level of hysteria from Sun, Daily Mirror, Daily Star readers.

How come they just seem to get on with buying and reading crap tabloids silently?

bigbelly4 · 21/05/2016 06:42

Think I have said very clearly from The beginning that I have clearly read the daily mail. At no point have I said it's a crap newspaper - I skim read it. As I also do with other papers including more high brow/in depth papers.

As I have already said, I take on board this is an open forum. I take on board that I should have possible done an advanced search before posting "another daily mail" post.

It's a public forum so open to twatty papers and lazy journalism, but it is open. If they reported on a private forum that's a whole different kettle of fish. The main thing is don't give yourself a recognisable name

Pagwatch · 21/05/2016 08:55

The world has changed and if you post stuff on an open forum, anyone can pick it up.

Yes, it might discourage people needing support.
But it also makes mumsnet a haven for pathetic attention seekers trying to be the next tedious viral story.
A staggeringly high ppn of threads are entirely made up or exaggerate to the point of soap opera.
If people stopped reading the mail we might all stop talking about it.

To say 'oh I don't mind the Mail but I don't like them invading the privacy of mumsnetters' is just hypocrisy. You don't mind everyone else being fair game but now you might be affected it's dreadful.

And penis beaker was a monument to stupidity. Anyone who thinks that thread was hilarious and witty strikes me as the sort of person who wanders around saying 'oh I'm mad I am'

JOEYDOESNTSHAREFOOD · 21/05/2016 09:01

If you're reading this Daily Mail, you can happily pick up my last thread, if it means I find out what that damn film was called.

peggyundercrackers · 21/05/2016 09:09

I don't think they are wrong. The print stories from lots of different social media, they don't just use stories from MN...

I find it hilarious that lots of people say I don't read the DM or post that they find it a paper of inferior intellect but then post that it's shocking to find DM printing stories from here - you must read it if you see stories from here.

I don't understand the surprise from people when they read stuff on the DM when MN themselves post threads to Facebook and Twitter, twitter and Facebook have much higher numbers of readers than DM will ever have.

This isn't a private chat site, everything is public and if people don't want their thoughts published then don't post them on a public site.
