Is the tourism industry in Egypt really about to cave in?

The last thing I would think about doing is booking a holiday there, or anywhere.

Why would people go on holiday to a Muslim country? I decided many years ago I would never go to one again after visiting Tunisia.

OP - there is civil war in some countries in the Middle East but the rest of it is a very safe place to live alongside lovely people. I know because I've lived in a Gulf country for almost 40 years now.

Are we bothered that you wouldn't come on holiday? No. Not in the least.

My views on not wanting to visit a Muslim country are nothing to do with war. I wouldn't support a country that represses women that's all. I thought I would have more support on that here.

I would go to a Muslim country. In fact we're going on holiday to one next year. We're staying with lovely Muslim friends for two weeks. There's no war where we're going, no civil unrest. The risk there is the same as the risk anywhere - here, Europe, America.

Would I go to Egypt though? Probably not.

Confused you're not being very specific. What country and what laws are you basing this boycott on exactly?

Buggers · 30/05/2016 14:25

Best not see a Muslim doctor/dentist or surgeon either then.Hmm

I have and still will vidit certain mudlim countries. I have avoided Egypt for a long time, especially since having kids. Too much unrest, too much a breeding ground for terrorists, too many terrorist attacks stretching back to when i first took an interest 25 years ago. The Sinai has been dangerous and unstable for years. It can also be a nightmare of a country for females travelling alone.

Visit certain muslim cointries.

'People' ? Muslim people are not people now ?

What? Muslim women aren't safe in Muslim countries, either. Not in extremist Muslim countries, of which Egypt is one. I can't think of a single Muslim country that has a separation of state and religion right now, and where women can live safely. Not to say that there is none, but I can't think of one right now.

So, yes, I would ask why a Muslim woman would want to go to Egypt, too, if it was just for a holiday and not for visiting family.
Nothing to do with religion as such - I also wouldn't go to Brazil. If you hate women, you won't get my money. Simple as that. Not so sure I will go to Ireland again; when I was there first I didn't know just how much the government hates women.

If you want to support a poor country that needs tourists, why not go to Greece?

What with the States backing it's way into the middle ages WRT women's rights. I lived in Italy for years and the culture and media there can be awful to women.

Scandinavia is nice this time of year...

I loved Morocco. And Dar es Salam. Felt far more misogyny in Kenya.
