To not bother redecorating until DCs are a bit older?

We moved into our house last June, we plan to live here for a long time. The decor has been done as a 'blank canvas'. Cheap magnolia paint on walls and bland carpets throughout. We have 4DC - 8,7,2 and 1, and we got 2 kittens last October. We have painted the kids rooms, and the living room, but already it's getting ruined. Scuff marks on walls, paint peeled off by blu-tack, 1 year old tearing off the carefully applied nursery wall stickers. The cats have also done a number on some of the walls by sharpening their claws, and have done their best to destroy the sofa.

Would it be completely lazy to just give up? I can't see the point in wasting any more time and money until the family matures a bit. As long as it's clean does it really matter how it looks?

Honestly, how much do you judge a person by their home?

You can get wipe/scrub paint (called Endurance) which you can scrub off dirt, scuffs, crayon and bleachable carpets. Yes bleachable. Guaranteed stain free for 10 years. So you could redecorate but make it child compatible.

I fell in an elegant tumbly way from the top to the bottom of our stairs when I was around 12/13, I can remember vividly my DM, shouting at me to MIND THE PAINT, once she had assessed the walls for damage she then made sure I was ok Hmm

She also used to make my sister and I pick up sock fluff from the carpet and used to hoover religiously.
She was extremely extremely house proud.

I am house proud to some extent but nowhere near her levels, we've just bought a house, have cleared it all out and are in the process of putting it back together. My 1 year old and my DSC will get nicely decorated rooms and the rest of the house will also be decorated nicely, my youngest DSC is 8 and I trust them not to do anything that stupid. I just need to try and keep an eye on the little one for pen related wall incidents and juice on the new carpet incidents!

maybe I could shut him in a cage until he's 7....hmmm
