To not like Prince William (lighthearted)

I'm actually a royalist, I adore the Queen, Charles is bloody amusing, I think he'll make quite a unique King, Camilla seems nice enough, love Harry, such a gem, he seems so invested and interested in everyone he meets, Kate seems sweet and I love her hair (so swishy) but William, my oh my, I can't bloody stand him!

I liked him well enough in the past but the past few years he's really annoyed me, he seems so miserable all the time, like someone's holding a gun to his back at public engagements, he doesn't seem to understand that he has to keep up with the times to keep the monarchy relevant, no one wants a dull uninterested King.

The monarchy is a product that needs public attention to survive and of the new generation, Harry and Kate are the ones everyone's interested in, not the future King.

I just wish he'd pretend to be happy, put a smile on your face and get on with it !

I think Harry is so happy and playful because he knows he won't ever be king. He gets all the perks, but far fewer drawbacks.

ClaireLumia · 13/05/2016 17:57

I always think that they're like 2 typical brothers with the older one being the serious, steady one and the younger one being the daft, outgoing one! I'm probably talking rubbish but I've got 2 boys with the same age difference and they're just the same.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 13/05/2016 18:03

I literally don't know anyone who's interested in Kate. I know a few that like Harry though Grin

Confused I've never heard anyone, ever, talk about the royal family in these terms.

William is probably alright, who knows.

marilyntaylor · 13/05/2016 18:42

Surely William and Kate's "thing" is mental health issues, particularly in respect of children? In fact, Prince William attended an engagement yesterday about raising the awareness of the high incidence of suicide amongst young men. Is it not important to support charities involved with mental health?

SingingSands · 13/05/2016 18:46

Poor Wills. He has two young kids, maybe he's sleep deprived? I was 80% grumpy when my kids were pre-schoolers. Waking up with a toddler's foot in your face will do that to you.

SharingMichelle · 13/05/2016 18:49

NoelHeadbands you made me laugh with that. Brilliant.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 13/05/2016 19:00

FFS, leave the poor chap alone! He's working as a pilot AS WELL AS fulfilling his royal duties (which aren't as simple as just rocking up to stuff, he has plenty of work that the papers and public don't see), AND he has a baby and toddler at home! MN is supposed to be supportive of fellow parents, but some of these posts make me think that the posters either aren't very nice people or haven't realised that Prince William is also a fellow human and parent that could do with a bit of empathy and support. Heaven forbid he actually be a normal person with normal issues!!

IDontBelieveAnything · 13/05/2016 19:38

Is that you Kate?

Griphook · 13/05/2016 20:31

FFS, leave the poor chap alone! He's working as a pilot AS WELL he's hardly putting the hours in! As well as what's though?

diddl · 13/05/2016 20:37

It's a catch 22 though, isn't it?

Surely a lot of how Harry is is because he isn't set to be King.

Same with Princess Margaret & Prince Andrew.

StackladysMorphicResonator · 13/05/2016 21:00

Agree with Hedgehog, some really mean comments from fellow parents here, you should be ashamed.

Rainbowqueeen · 13/05/2016 21:02

I always thought his thing was the protection of endangered species and stopping poaching??!!

StackladysMorphicResonator · 13/05/2016 21:03

And FYI, I'm not a royalist but it boils my piss to see how people rip into the Cambridges without even considering they may have a life and feelings and conflicting priorities like the rest of us. Just being royal doesn't mean they automatically become PR robots.

AndYourBirdCanSing · 13/05/2016 21:17

I really like Harry. I agree that he doesn't have the pressure of being future king though.

I think he has a lot of his mother in him.

Tram10 · 13/05/2016 21:42

I feel for him ! So much expected of him purely because of his birth and his birth order, , no real choice in his life, he just has to join and lead the family business whether he likes it or not.

He and his wife constantly being slated and criticised, having to do photo shoots because it's expected of them, I am glad the Queen and Prince Charles are supporting them taking a back seat as much as possible.

I kinda imagine he would be the first person to vote for abolishing the monarchy, if it came to it. .

If the monarchy was abolished, then Harry could be the president !! He just oozes charisma and empathy and appears so comfortable in his own skin. He would be a spectacular President of the United Kingdom.

QueenofLouisiana · 13/05/2016 21:57

I met William a few months ago, he was on flight duty and I needed to help with the landing (any more details would out me). He was a very professional, nice bloke- my colleague and I didn't realise who he was to start with. He talked to and helped us, but vanished around the back of his helicopter when word got out and a crowd appeared.

The job he did that day was not easy on any of the team, it didn't have the desired outcome and I think that must be difficult for all involved.

BeBesideTheSea · 13/05/2016 22:05

He has real charisma in person, and is very charming. And astonishingly slim. None of this comes across on film/camera.

At a recent event he clearly knew what his 'duty' was, and.was a little bored by it (so would anyone) but was really engaged when meeting kids and real people.

I was a bit ambivalent before, but he won me over.

EverySongbirdSays · 13/05/2016 23:09

. Is it not important to support charities involved with mental health?

Of course it's important, and it would be so GREAT if that was his thing, but if it is, it's no Duke Of Edinburgh Award, Princes Trust, Invictus, Save The Children it has no oomph or welly behind it. It'd be brilliant if it did.

Winterbiscuit · 14/05/2016 01:49

I think dour introverts are great! Andy Murray is another one. Very refreshing in a world of identikit loud celebs.

Rebecca2014 · 14/05/2016 06:31

Charles and William are both unlikable. I cannot see many people looking on proudly as an aging Charles becomes king.

Harry seems to genuinely enjoy his charity work, he is laid back and jolly while William always looks uptight. It also annoys me how they keep their children out of the spotlight yet are happy live off the money being royal brings them.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 14/05/2016 08:07

Nothing wrong with dour introverts, but he seems more like a petulant, miserable whiner. If the royal title is so bloody unendurable then jack it in - it's not as though they will ever be bloody poor is it? And he won't even be king for 60-odd years because the bloody royals live forever because they never do any fucking hard work so there is plenty of time for him to sulk later.

They all really boil my piss.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 14/05/2016 08:07

(Except Harry, who is hot). Grin

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 14/05/2016 19:38

Anne has the equestrian thing; Edward and Andrew have dropped off the radar somewhat but we could consider them general business interests I guess.

Andrew has the whole fucking women young enough to be his granddaughter procured by dodgy businessmen 'thing' the enjoying the hospitality of all sorts of iffy characters from unpalatable regiemes across the globe 'thing' and the being boorish, arrogant and rude ',thing'. Yes I've met him and he's every bit as vike in real life. His younger brother is considerably more likeable.
