AIBU to issue my 14yo DD with ONE bath towel for the week to teach her lesson

I went out for a couple of hours last night to visit a friend. My DD said she was going to give herself a pamper night. When I came back DD was in her bedroom and on the bathroom floor were four, that's FOUR wet scrumpled bath towels (freshly washed yesterday). My face felt hot. I went into my bedroom and there on the floor in front of my bedroom mirror, was a further wet, scrumpled bath towel. My face was now purple, my eyes were starting to blur with blind fury!!! Five freshly washed towels left wet and scrumpled on the floor. She does this EVERY TIME she has a bath (though five is a record it's normally one or two).

AIBU to issue her one towel for the week (and hide all the others) so she learns to use it, put it on the radiator if it's usuable again the next morning or put it in the wash bin? Yes I know by the end of the week it will be minging but to prove a point that other people live in this house and would like a dry towel occasionally without washing the whole lot every single day, is this a fair and good way of teaching a selfish 14 yo a lesson??

This thread is getting funnier by each page.

Each of the DDs has her own towel.

DH and I share 3 towels between us (I use 2 - one for body one for hair - and he uses 1 but they all look the same and we are not specific about whose is whose)

They are washed weekly unless visibly dirty sooner. I tend to find blood from my period, and mascara, are more likely than poo.

YANBU OP. One towel a week is normal. You could stretch to two so she can wrap her hair.

I can catagorically say that I have never in my life dried between my toes. I might have used a towel between my toes to get sand out but that is entirely different.

dowhatnow · 16/05/2016 17:51

Or my vulva...

StillRabbit · 16/05/2016 17:57

I can catagorically say that I have never in my life dried between my toes.

Me neither! Even when I go for a pedicure my feet just get wrapped in a towel after soaking. I have a pair of towelling spa slippers that I put on after my shower so that my 'regular' slippers don't get too wet.

PerryHatter · 16/05/2016 18:01

I can only imagine a dry 'vulva' to feel uncomfortable.

keep your filthy thoughts to yourself

OutToGetYou · 16/05/2016 18:11

Our house isn't humid, what with us not living in the hot house at Kew Gardens, so 'microbes' probably wouldn't bother with us.

I can't fathom going to the lengths of drying between your toes or specifically making sure your vulva was (were?) dry. What about ear lobes, eye lids, behind your knees, between your fingers, surely missing each of those is just as gross?

Like I said though, I don't stay wet, I dry naturally, kind of air dry. Maybe this is why the towel isn't a sopping breeding ground for microbes? It's hardly wet, just a bit damp, and it hasn't been shoved up my bum.

I proper lol'd at that post!

dementedma · 16/05/2016 19:32

I have to confess to drying between toes. I had a horrible case of athletes foot years ago and it still haunts me lol!

Gwenhwyfar · 16/05/2016 20:15

"Constant wetting and drying in a humid atmosphere is a breeding ground for microbes."

which microbes, which illnesses do they cause?

AugustaFinkNottle · 16/05/2016 20:21

And why is anyone's bathroom constantly humid? Ours gets steamy if someone has a bath or shower, but as it's properly ventilated (as required by law, after all!) the steam clears within minutes. I guess there's a little humidity from the wet towels, but it's considerably better than a rainy or foggy day and we manage not to catch dreadful microbes from our clothes in that sort of weather.

MakingJudySmile · 16/05/2016 20:42

I'm still trying to figure out how she used that many so that they were damp. I can figure out up to three damp towels worth, possibly four (if the floor got involved in the drying process).

I've another question: what do people consider towel sharing to be?

a) the use of the same towel as someone else in the period between the towel being washed and dried.
b) using the same towel as someone, that has been washed and dried since that someone else used it?

I'm also intrigued at other people's bottom drying techniques; sometime I'm fearful may wandering into my head as I'm chatting with work colleagues tomorrow. Also not really something I thought I'd ever ponder if truth be know.

Your DD needs to get herself a MN account and explain her towel usage STAT.

Slowdecrease · 16/05/2016 21:52

I would suggest that to her but MN is the only DD exclusion zone I have Grin

LittleBearPad · 16/05/2016 22:47

You mentioned towels Slow, catnip for MN. Add in a loo brush and the site would have exploded Wink

Slowdecrease · 16/05/2016 23:17

I did not know this Grin

I wash towels on a Thursday and put them on a pile on the bathroom. People take which ever ones they fancy and sometimes they use the same towel as someone else. We dry them on a heated towel rail. We're all still alive I think

thebestfurchinchilla · 17/05/2016 07:50

I think OP's DD had a 'pamper night' rather than just a regular shower/bath. So she probably soaked her feet, washed her hair, bathed and did a manicure. But that's 4 towels. Oh yes and one for but flossing as some have mentioned!!! One towel per person per week here.

thebestfurchinchilla · 17/05/2016 07:50

butt!!!

thebestfurchinchilla · 17/05/2016 07:52

makingjudysmile To me, sharing a towel means more than one person using it between washes. Once it's washed it's clean, no 40 degree washes here! 60 degrees for bedding and towels!

CuntTrollingRs · 17/05/2016 08:12

Thanks for another great towel thread, OP.

We need a whole topic just for towellery.

We have bathmats, changed every few days and a towel each, changed about weekly. I don't actively dry myself, just potter about with a towel wrapped round.

I told my dcs that they should leave the bathroom ready for the next person and if they don't the next person will come and find them and get them to pick up their towel, clothes or whatever. It works.

My dcs have one bath between three (they take turns) ,dd1 showers only, and I share with Dh. Most people think bath sharing is disgusting but we don't smell.

hendricksy · 04/08/2018 13:15

We have our own towels that we use for a week . Just tell her to stop it !!
