AIBU to issue my 14yo DD with ONE bath towel for the week to teach her lesson

I went out for a couple of hours last night to visit a friend. My DD said she was going to give herself a pamper night. When I came back DD was in her bedroom and on the bathroom floor were four, that's FOUR wet scrumpled bath towels (freshly washed yesterday). My face felt hot. I went into my bedroom and there on the floor in front of my bedroom mirror, was a further wet, scrumpled bath towel. My face was now purple, my eyes were starting to blur with blind fury!!! Five freshly washed towels left wet and scrumpled on the floor. She does this EVERY TIME she has a bath (though five is a record it's normally one or two).

AIBU to issue her one towel for the week (and hide all the others) so she learns to use it, put it on the radiator if it's usuable again the next morning or put it in the wash bin? Yes I know by the end of the week it will be minging but to prove a point that other people live in this house and would like a dry towel occasionally without washing the whole lot every single day, is this a fair and good way of teaching a selfish 14 yo a lesson??

5 towels? That's bloody ridiculous! As a teenager I'd only use one or two every few days, and I'd wash them myself!

Give her a face cloth and tell her that's it for the week.

Also, make her wash the 5 bath towels by hand. In the wash hand basin. And not make a mess.

(Kidding, obviously!)

But it's 1 towel per week each in our house and we manage just fine.

WTF is she doing with 5 towels?? I'd say an allowance of 2 towels a week as I do use one for body and one for hair. Can you hide the other towels somewhere? What is her response when you ask her why she does it??

Also I might just add that I used to use fresh towels after each wash when I was a teenager. My mum gave me a stern talking too and now I definitely don't change them enough... Blush I think I've had my current towels for about 3 weeks and counting! Shock

Maybe you could buy her a toweling bath robe and tell her to wash it herself?

I love a good neurotic towel thread. We just all use whatever is in the bathroom at the time. Wash them after a few uses, it several uses, or many uses. Just whenever it occurs to me really.
Can't believe the poster who washes towels when guests have used the downstairs loo and presumably just wiped the water off their clean hands.

I'm confused by this towel that people stand on. Is this instead of a bath mat? Or am I missing a towel in my routine?

I am also a 1 towel a week person.

I don't get what's the big deal.

Some 14 year olds are off drinking wicked with their mates when their parents are out. It takes two seconds to drape them over a rail or bannister and they can be re-used the next time.

Don't sweat the small stuff.
My teenage DD uses masses of towels, but she works hard in school, excels at her hobby of ballet, is good mannered, kind, never has a cross word, , often cooks, does lots of stuff around the house without being asked,

If it means I pick up a few towels a week for drying off it's no big deal.

We wash our towels after every use, it's fair to issue her one and tell her to put it in the laundry so it's ready for the next day. I wouldn't want to use the same towel twice.

I have teenage DD not sure they ever managed 5 towels in one go but they certainly used to get a fresh one out instead of using the one from the bedroom or bathroom floor.
My solution was to buy everyone new towels 2 sets each. I used to wash them once a week, now they do their own laundry.

yasmin " issue towels" your home sounds like a military camp.

I have a large cupboard for linen and towels, everyone is free to take as many or as few towels as they wish.

Dump them on her bed and don't give her any fresh ones. Show her how washing machine works and where the pegs are/tumble drier works.

She may have been having a pamper night but that's taking the piss. What was she doing, drying herself while on the shower?!

We change towels about once a week (shower or bath everyday). Same as bedding. I have one for hair one for body. The bath mat is for standing on and that goes in the weekly bedding/towel wash. I don't think I'm minging.

WFT - single use towels?!! How much laundry do you do?! The arse thing is ridiculous! Presumably you wiped after toilet and then washed while in the bath/shower so your arse is clean. You're doing something wrong if you are still getting shit on the towel after a shower!

We have a heated towel rail and towels just get hung back on it. If DH leaves it in a heap in the bedroom it's tough, he'll have a damp towel!

I would've had to ask her WTF she actually needed to use 5 towels before making her pick the up herself, or I would've dumped them all in her bed.

We all have our own towels that get washed weekly, and a couple of hand towels next to sink for general use.

I have never in my life felt the need to spread my cheeks and actually dry my arsehole so no shit on my towels.

If my DD uses two towels I dry them and put them back on her shelf. She showers twice a day so the towels don't get dirty. I wash them every few days.

I don't dry my arse or much of the rest of me. I dry easily wafting around wearing my toweling dressing gown. The soft, snuggly ones aren't so good. I towel per week.

We only have 3 bath towels! What is a hair turban towel? How many washes a week do you do ( remembering recent thread on this )? We all hang up and re-use.

The planet is dying. People wash their towels after every wash because they might have (gasp!) touched their perfectly clean bottom. Crazy.

The word 'towel' has now lost all meaning for me.

I wash them after about five days. I am amazed that so many people wash towels after a single use. It is also quite funny that OP feels that making her daughter have one towel for one week is a punishment!
